Hell's Ditch track listing and new found respect

Post Sun Jan 14, 2007 2:30 pm

I was always wondering what was the original track listing for Hell's Ditch. I heard Shane wanted such songs as Curse of Love, Pinned Down, Squid Out of Water, and Aisling placed on the album. Furthermore, I want to express my respect towards this album and Peacea nd Love, iboth recordds are now in my opinion, the most underrated Pogues albums of the MacGowan era. I just love the overall pastoral flow of this album. Thailand is the theme, and songs like Sayonara, Summer In Siam, and House of the Gods are classic moments of pure Poguetry. I will always go record and say that this album and Peace and Love, seem to get some venom thrown their way. I mean you just can't touch the magic and brilliance of the band's first three albums, nothing can. However, both albums may have their uneven points, but their still classics as far as I'm concerned.

But to me it's everything."

who wrote the music for the song hell's ditch?
was it the whole band, inspired by shane's guitar musings?
because i think that is some of their most powerful music
shane's lyrics are also masterful

i would say that it is perhaps their best song (imo clearly)
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.

Benno: I thought that too for some time. But with time, more songs came to status "one of best" as I have no "best" songs - but only two songs had this status in my Pogues evolution - Wake of Medusa and Hell´s Ditch.

The music is mainly Jem's. It first appears as "Greek Salad" on the Abbey Road recordings we did in 1986 (the "Terry Woods Solo Album") and was then shelved until the right context appeared.

it's pretty minimalist isnt it?
i mean the parts are just played again and again
then finally it changes

and the part where the percussion enters
and shanes voice begins
it's amazing that
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.
