Fiesta (lyrics, video)

Post Sun Apr 25, 2004 9:13 pm

Hi,

Can anyone help me with the alternative lyrics to Fiesta? In the video, and some live versions I've heard, the second half of the second verse differ from the album. Unfortunately Shane slurs pretty bad so I can't make out more than a word here and there.

Anyone knows anything?

Thanks,

MA

On a related note, can anyone translate the last verse into English?
In my blue heaven,
The bells of Hell
Go ding-a-ling-a-ling!

No one knows? I clearly hear the word Grenada/Granada but the rest is impossible. This is how it was sung live in '88 and also in the video, as I said.

Adios in Fiesta

Post Sun Aug 14, 2005 6:27 pm

There is a subtle difference in the manner in which Shane pronounces adios in Fiesta. Chorus 1 and 3 is more of an "a-dios," whereas chorus 2 is simply "adios." Now, is this just me, or do others notice this difference, and if so, is there any significance to it?

The signifgance is either you've listened to it too many times... or you have too much free time ! (As if you can listen to a pogues song too many times... what was I thinking?) LOL :)

To my knowledge, it was Adrian Edmonson (of Bottom fame) that directed that clip.

Fiesta video lyrics

Post Sun May 28, 2006 1:03 am

In the Fiesta video available on youtube.com, the second verse's lyrics are different than the album release.

"Now he has won cochona in the bingo
All the town has watched this crazy gringo
As he pulls off the dolls head laughing
And miraldo! throws its body in the sea"

Instead of the above, there's something about "a young girl from Granada", but I can't make out the rest.

Any ideas?
Stay in bed when the Pogues are in town???
Well, that's a bloody stupid thing to do!

I don't know exactly what the different lyrics are but I do know that the version of the song in the video is the same as that released as a single, which was different to the album version. The sleeve of the single gives no information to say whether this is a remix or re-recording.

The track as heard on the album was considered too long for a single, so Steve Lillywhite created a new single vesion from the components on the master tapes. So, not a new recording, but certainly a remix and a few edits. I wasn't present, so I can't be more specific.
