Question about the American Reissues

Post Thu Oct 26, 2006 10:38 pm

Anyone have any idea how well they are selling?

Personally I didnt buy any of them just because I had already bought the imported versions of these.

I was really just wondering 2 things:

1st: If most hardcore pogues fans in America had already bought these the same as I, and did not purchase the new reissues, thus making them not sell as well in the US,

2nd: How big of an audience base do the Pogues still have in America.

Thanks guys!

I don't know the answer to any of these questions, but the folks from Rhino Records, who came to see us opening night at the Wiltern in LA, seemed pleased enough with the sales so far.

The greatest thing about these U.S. reissues is their sheer AVAILABILITY. You can now find these classic albums at every Circuit City, Best Buy, or Virgin megastore. Quite a different story from when I was a kid in Illinois in the late 80's, when it was nearly impossible to get my hands on Pogues stuff. The Island releases were somewhat available if you were willing to ride your bike a few miles, but it took me 4 agonizing years to get a copy of Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash. I nearly got one of the last copies of the RCA release, but the moron at Record Town who processed my special order misspelled it as "The PAGUES", so I waited for 6 months for nothing. By the time they got it worked out, it was too late. It took a special trip to an independent record store in Iowa City to finally find a copy. I nearly cried tears of joy when I finally found it. Anyway, it's great that kids just getting into the Pogues can just download the stuff from iTunes.

Although I already owned all the albums on CD, I've bought all the U.S. reissues -- not just because of the extra tracks, but because they sound FANTASTIC. What a treat -- the orginal CD mastering on RS&L (especially side B) was borderline criminal.
I'm an American fan who is buying all the reissues

I have probably bought each Pogues album atleast 3 times because I have lost them or broken them over the years... I have the IISFFGWG and the Hell's Ditch reissues and they both sound really good.. The new tracks on there are awesome as well. I'm expecting that a lot of the Pogues fans(like myself) in America will buy the reissues either because their old Pogues CDs are worn out or they just want to hear what the new ones sound like.
casey don't stare at that light-- you have epilepsy!!

What Im really hoping for are reissues of them all albums on vinyl.

I couldnt help but noticing a few web sites promoting the reissue of some of them....

I never really had trouble ever finding a Pogues record because I shop a three independent record shops in Virginia (it's where I found my Pogues B-sides Volume One and Two CDs), and one guy who owns Fantasy Records in Newport News is a huge Pogues fan. Also, surprisingly Borders book stores is where I bought every single Pogues album I own, including the reissues. I had already bought the import reissues back in 2004/2005, so no, I didn't buy any of the new American releases. However, I'm glad that they are finally available at every single record shop now, and not just available as an import. New Pogues fans can finally hear the brilliance of these albums.

....If I can give just one more reason for American fans to buy the U.S. reissues: they're very reasonably priced.

The Virgin Megastore here at Union Sq. was selling each album for only $10 -- that's a good 5 bucks than what I paid for those albums back in the '80s. Not sure how long that deal will last, but let's face it...your old CDs won't last forever, so why not replace them now.

No, I don't work for Rhino records...Just a fan who wants to give the Pogues incentive to return to the U.S. again and again. Who knows...maybe someone will finally book the band on Letterman's show (I don't consider that 1993 appearance with just Spider and the guitarist from the Popes as a real "Pogues" appearance. Man, did I feel cheated by THAT!)

Yeah I asked that before but the reissues have too much playing time and by the way it's better to listen to them before they were digitally remastered cause that would make no difference on a turntable

My only question to about the new releases, is why Rhino didn't release the two post-Shane CDs "Waiting For Herb" and "Pogue Mahone." I know they aren't really popular with most Pogue's fans, but I believe they deserve some merit. I have the remastered CDs of both that include "First Day of Forever," "Train Kept Rolling On," and "Paris St. Germaine" On "Herb," and "Eyes of an Angel," and the alternate take of "Love You Till the End," on "Pogue Mahone."

Technically, neither Waiting For Herb or Pogue Mahone have ever been deleted, that's why. For many years, frustratingly enough, they were the only Pogues CDs one ever saw in US record shops.

Back in the late 80's, I taped my friend's LPs onto cassettes, but over time stopped listening to the tapes. After seeing the band in LA in Oct. for the first time since 1989 or so, I bought the Rhino reissues for RSL and IISFGWG. Love having the extra songs that were not on the original LPs in US!! Huge bonus.
