thank's jon.

After i started listening to the pogues and becoming completly hooked. it made me want a banjo and i when't out and brought one. As there where no tab books avalable, i started to work the banjo parts out for myself. so hopefully with the tabs i have wrote out alot more people will go out and start to play the banjo. i'm doing my best to get the tabs correct but if anyone finds a mistake/or something's wrong then let me know and i will correct it.

At the moment i'm working on a bunch of new song's, but at the moment i have only got about 60% of the tabs wrote out, as it takes along time to write each one out. also i have sections missing so it takes time to work them out, also there are a few where i know they have capo's. so it all takes time but hopefully i will have them up on the forum soon.

also i have compiled a little list of song's that i know jem doesn't play banjo on them:-

sally mac = mandolin
muskin durkin= mandolin
turkish song of the damned= bazouki
bottle of smoke= bazouki

i will add more to the list when i remember them all.

MR C,

I hope you don't mind answering some more question's.

Firstly, just wondering the chords for the instrument break of " body of an american ", do you use a capo on this one? you guys seem to play the same section twice, five bars long for each one, on the record anyway.

Scondly, i know mr wood's play all sorts of different instrument's, and he plays bazouki most of the time, right ?, just wondering if you knew what tuning he has it in. Also jem plays one too, on a few songs anyway, does he have it in the same tuning?

also, have you spoken to jem about my capo/banjo question, for body of an american?

thank's

First off, keep up the good work - very impressive and, I'm sure, a very useful resource now and in the future.

I had the Jem capo question on my mind throughout the recent week of work in the UK and yet I failed to find a suitable moment to put it. I got sidetracked into discussing with Jem the technical challenges he faces in mounting the upcoming "acoustic" version of Longplayer (London's Roundhouse, September 12, folks!). Like me, he's a divil for "process". But I will ask him somewhere between Oslo and Exeter next week, I promise. Ditto Terry's tuning. Terry is pretty relaxed about whether people call his axe an octave mandolin, a bouzouki or a mandola but I do know his personal preference is to call it a cittern. What he actually plays onstage is a custom-made 8 stringed electric instrument which has as much or as little in common with his original acoustic cittern - now consigned to his private music room for safety's sake - as was needed to make it a mean, clean, Eddie Van Halen machine for live work.

The break in "Body of a Yank" is pretty straightforward actually, though I can see that the intermeshing of brass, wind and string instruments can sometimes give the misleading impression that there's a major seventh in there. I don't use a capo, just simple 1s 4s and 5s in the key of C:

Thank's Mr C, for answering my questions and your kind words regarding the tabs i have posted. I just hope, i have given some justice to Jem's banjo playing, with my tabs. I hope you don't mind me picking your brain once in a while, as i'm trying to get the tabs as accurate as i can, as there nothing worse than finding tabs, which are wrong. So in the long run, hopefully with the tabs i have wrote out alot more people will pick up a banjo and be able to play some pogues songs.

Also from myself and everone here at the forum, wish Jem good luck with his acoustic longplayer gig.

Thank's once again

Post Thu Oct 08, 2009 1:28 am

I've been messing around with the song for a couple weeks and finally decided to get the proper chords. Anyone?

I'd imagine it's something like...

G - Am - C for the 1st 3 verses...after the 3d, It's G-Am-C-G-C-Am

Solo - C -Am

That should get you around the tune pretty much....

I'm sure Phil can explain it a bit better than me, sorry if it's wrong,

I believe it's:

verse:
G G G G am am C C
G G G G C C am am
G G G G am am C C
G am C G C C am am

G G G G am am C C
G G G G C C am am
G G G G am am C C
G am C G G am C G
G am C G G am C G

chorus:
G am C G G am C G
G am C G C C am am
C D G

bridge:

C C C C C C am am
C C C C C C am am

Cheers!

Thanks a lot. I saw somewhere that it's along the lines of D-Em-G, but I don't have enough of an ear/musical training to know otherwise.
