Re: "A Pair of Brown Eyes" Chords

Smokey wrote:Thanks a lot. I saw somewhere that it's along the lines of D-Em-G, but I don't have enough of an ear/musical training to know otherwise.

Well, that would be in the key of D. The original Pogues-version is in the key of G.

In D it would be:

D D D D em em G G
D D D D G G em em

and so on...

and the chorus:

D em G D D em G D
D em G D G G em em
G A D

;) Good Luck!

THE POGUES
WAXES DARGLE
5 strg banjo tab

I converted this from a guitar tab i found, it sounds ok, but it's hard to tell if it's 100% corrected as it's played pretty fast. and i struggle to play it at the correct speed to tell. see what you think.

Instrumental part
D|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---8--7--5-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|------------7--4--------------4-----------------------------4--5--7--4----------|
D|------------------------5--7-----7--5--------2--0--5--5-------------------------|
G|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

I'm looking for a song title as well as 5 string banjo tab for my favorite pogues song. It is on a home made cd a friend gave me several years ago. It is an instrumental that is very fast and has a scruggs-style bluegrass breakdown banjo intro. the only vocal sound is a rebel yell at the end. Can someone please help me identify this song? The next track on the cd is 'the curse of love'. Thanks

gam, it is "squid out of water". Can you tab it for me? Actually, I saw your post on BHO and it inspired me to chime in and ask if anyone had this tab, but I didn't even know the name of the song. Very frustrating! I guess I made an OK discription, it got results. Thanks gam

hi curtis,

i think this is the picking pattern for the first few bars of squid out of water are;-

intro
D|-----0--------0--------0--|-----0--------0--------0--|-----0--------0--------0--|
B|---------------------------|----------------------------|---------------------------|
G|--0--------0--------0-----|--0--------0--------0-----|--0--------0--------0-----|
D|---------------------------|---------------------------|----------------------------|
G|--------0--------0--------|--------0--------0--------|--------0--------0---------|

give me some more time to work out the little runs he puts in there, and the other two sections

oh and by the way, it's played fast as fuck.

let me know what you think?

this is for don who wanted to know the intro for tuesday morning.
jem stays on G until the chorus bit then it changes to a C, i think a D is in there as well some where.
this is the picking pattern.

gam, I'm tone-deaf and still learning me way around the banjo neck, but it sounds ok to me - I only have two tempos; playing flat out or not playing at all.
Cheers for the hard graft though, much appreciated.
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then
