FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK - CHARITY DONATIONS

Post Sat May 13, 2006 1:52 pm

Things move slowly in the music business, but I am finally able to confirm that The Pogues' share of the royalties for the re-released "Fairytale" single last Christmas was £8,435.76 which we have, as promised, divided equally between Justice For Kirsty and the homeless charity Crisis At Christmas.

There may be other amounts forthcoming from the record company, the song's authors and publisher and the record's producer, all of whom benefitted financially from the re-release, but I am not at liberty to disclose these amounts - if they are made, they will be at the discretion of the individuals and companiesd involved.

The Pogues and the charities involved would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the fans who bought the record (some in multiple copies). The amount donated was raised by YOU, the record buyer. Many thanks.

Thank you, Philip, for that information. Justice also moves slowly, but the momentum is there.

I'm just surprised the band's share wasn't more.

Fantastic :D In the frenzy of trying to get the single to number one for Christmas it was easy to forget that we were all raising money for these great causes at the same time. I hope the 'authors' also see fit to donate their profits - I am sure they will!

:) Nice one Philip... will this be a continuing program of fundraising? In other words, will buying more copies help raise more money for Justice For Kirsty and Crisis At Christmas? I think we could try to move a few more down here in Oz...

So nice to hear Mr C , many thanks once again for keeping us all so well informed.
I can't help thinking how great it would of been to see Kirsty perform on these reunion tours , as she surely would have done, so cruel, so unfair, justice is the least she deserves

No, the only way the whole idea could work effectively and uncomplicatedly was to confine the charity period to that re-release for that period. Which is not to say that JFK and CAC would be unhappy to receive individual donations outside of this event.

No problem. JFK's bank account is published on ther website. What about CAC? Do they have a website?

I do have to go to the bank tomorrow anyway ( Paying taxes is such fun :x ), so I could do something helpful there as well.

Thank you Philip, yeah fair enough, that makes sense from an accounting POV. I think it was a classy thing to do in the first place.
