Children's TV loves The Pogues. I rmember a few years ago there was a programme called Gilbert's Fridge. The show always featured Fiesta and the theme tune was Wild Cats of Kilkenny.

Yeah and I heard Fiesta on an advert for the CITV Channel.

Well, yes, the BBC kids' programme Balamory uses the look of the town of Tobermory, on the Scottish Isle of Mull. Where the houses indeed appear very small, and in different colours. But the whisky is good, which may help to explain it.

I think Fiesta has cropped up in quite a few adverts over the years. I know one was a car advert. I don't really take too much notice of adverts but I've definately heard Fiesta in a few of them.

:) Yes, but that's because it's a classic Australian 'bush' song or colonial period sea shanty. The Wiggles, given their wholesome early-childhood-education-based backgrounds and chart experience as The Cockroaches, are far more likely to be following in the footsteps of bands like The Bushwhackers, or even Redgum in their choice of this song. It is, after all being performed by a notorious pirate (YAARR, MATEYS!) who tickles children with a feathersword. Rather than Shane. 'Nuff said.
It's basically a really good grunty sea-shanty that doesn't contain too many offensive terms or concepts. There's the 'girl he left behind' romanticism - the horrors of the trip - the longing for home - all the classic elements of a great traditional song. No mention of whores and damnation, pox and scurvy, racism, jingoism, lunacy or friggin' in the riggin'.
Note, that as a parent, I have nothing against The Wiggles at all, and I wish them and their burgeoning media empire all the best. :)

I've noticed that Dublin in the rare old times has the same melody as the beginning of Transmetropolitan. Just sharing.
