Phone ringtones

Post Thu Apr 06, 2006 6:05 pm

I bought a ringtone the other day, obviously Pogues but which one to choose?

I was on a site that had 4 different songs: Dirty Old Town, FONY, Fiesta and Irish Rover. A major choice but it had to be DOT.

I got thinking about it afterwards and asked myself if I had a choice of any pogues song, what would it be? The Answer, Dirty Old Town. Why? Beacuse 1) it's superb tune and lyrics are instantly recognisable to me and all serious Pogues fans but 2) in takes me to a small pub with peat on the fire and a stout in hand. Good friends and discussion with locals are taking place and we are nice and snug ina warm place whilst it is raging a storm outside. DOT is being played by the session inthe corner.

Strangley enough, I would not class the song as being inthe top 5 of pogues songs but as a reminder of all things good, it has no equal as a song

Any other thoughts?

Personally buy all of them, but if you can only afford one then DOT is as food as any. 8)

I will not pay for ringtones. The entire concept is ludicrous. How much do the artists actually receive? There is plenty of software that allows you to create and upload to your phone, so why pay some ripoff telco, who then rip off artists (*warning-this ring tone may not be performed by the original artist* May? Try WILL)

I have a snippet of FONY as my 'ringtone', and part of Comrade Bragg's 'Great Leap Forward' as my message alert..

My phone sounds like a phone, and I like it that way  I know, I might be a tad old-fashioned and all of that, but I get annoyed when other people's phones start blasting out some dreadful song that I'll normally avoid, and thus extend other people the courtesy of not having to hear my music.

I have Sally MacLennane as ringtone and FONY as the alarm sound. Nice to wake up with it every morning. And it was all free. Just ripped the songs from my cds and put them on the memory card in the phone.

Anyone who have an idea how much the band makes on the ringtones that are sold?

:x I'd imagine that, if lucky, artists may be payed a one0off royalty or fee for thier work, but generally I suspect that these rip-off merchant telco scum just flog it. :x
:) Like yourself, I just rip and upload my own, purchased CDs into mp3 snippets, which I can assign in phone memory to different functions. Nice use of Sally MacLennane, BTW. :)
