Poguerty In Motion

This fantastic EP ranks right ip their with Red Roses For Me, Rum, Sodomy and the Lash, and If I Should Fall From Grace With God. This marked the beginning of band branching out and discovering new musical roots.

London Girl saw the Pogues embracing Cajun music. However, this little ditty reminds of Shane's early days with The Nips, with it fantastic bouncy accordion.

A Rainy Night In Soho is one of the best ballads the band has ever written. It shows the band adding strings and piano for the first time. This version is far superior to my mind than they 1991 remade version.

The Body of an American returns the music back to the "Irish soul." This one has to be one of my favorite Pogues songs. Swifting Uillean Pipes and whirling whistles makes this number outstanding.

Planxty Noel Hill is one of the best instrumentals Jem Finer has written. Basically this one was dedicated to Noel Hill of the band Planxty who quoted saying that The Pogues "were a terrible abortion of Irish music." So this one goes out to him (cunt)

Anyway this EP marked the emergence of Terry Woods (love the cittern) and the end of Cait O'Riordan's relationship with the band. However, a fantastic piece of work that ranks alongside some of The Pogues' best work.

Your guy's thoughts??

Love the EP.

But my old vinyl has always had a scratch on it. For years I thought that Planxty Noel Hill was about three times the length that it actually is.

I'll lend it to you if Firehazard doesn't want to borrow it.

Have you got a record player? No don't suppose you have.

I think that, quality-wise, Poguetry In Motion is the band's finest work. Bearing in mind the problems the band had with their record company for the following year or two, it is sad to think what might have been if they had made an LP not long after that. However, it is good to know that there are some songs out there that didn't get released, just waiting for the box set!
