First off Miss Otis Regrets/Just One of Those Things, is a forgotten Pogues gem. To answer your question yes, The Pogues collaborated with Kristy on other songs such as All the Tears That I Cried and The One and Only.

All The Tears That I Cried, is a post-Shane track, I found it on The Pogues B-Sides Volume Two, which was an album I had trouble finding at first. I don't think the album is in circulation, but try there. The One and Only, I have not heard, but I do know the Pogues played on the track.

No problem, keep an eye out for it, but as before start there.

The band does a great job instrumentally with One of Those Things. The lyrics are simple but somehow they manage to exactly capture the feelings they're trying to convey. Forgotten gem indeed!

That fantastic "Miss Otis/One of Those Things" can be found on the "Red Hot and Blue: Cole Porter Tribute" which thankfully is still in print:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000 ... nce&n=5174

Well worth it, not just for the above track but also for Debbie Harry/Iggy Pop dueting on "Well Did You Evah".

Umm. Yeah, OK. For that song.

But surely Tom Waits' "It's All Right With Me," David Byrne's "Don't Fence Me In," and Le Negresses Vertes' "I Love Paris" are worth a listen too?

And for what it's worth - All The Tears That I cred can be bought legally as the B-Side of Kirsty MacColl's "My Affair" single, and on the "From Croyden to Cuba" collection.

Kirsty also sings on Lorelei and a few backing vocals on the If I Should Fall... extended mix (on the single) and the remix of A Rainy Night In Soho.

That's because it's not a proper album, it's a bootleg CD-R.

"The One And Only" is on the "Electric Landlady" album by Kirsty.

Does that mean it was Michael Brook who played the solo in "My Baby's Gone"?

Um, I forget. But it wasn't me. James? Terry? Jem?

Argh, a Kirsty thread and I missed it because I've been away from the boards recently!

Anyway, yes, "The One And Only" and "All The Tears That I Cried" are two fantastic tracks. "The One And Only" is my 2nd favorite song off her Electric Landlady. A stunningly gorgeous song, I think, the band sounds amazing, and it's got one of my all-time favorite Kirsty lyrics:

Some lives read like a postcard
And some lives read like a book
I'll be happy if mine doesn't read
Like a joke from an old Christmas cracker

"All The Tears That I Cried" is completely bonkers and tons of fun, and although it first appeared as a bonus track on a CD single, in typical Kirsty fashion it's just as good as any of her A-sides. I've still got the Nicky Campbell radio program where she debuted "All The Tears," claiming that she hadn't heard the final version yet because she went to bed the night before and left Steve up working on the final mix. She says "Not even the band who played on it, The Pogues, have even heard this version yet because I hadn't finished singing it 'til yesterday."

It's fun to listen to "The One And Only" and "All The Tears That I Cried" back to back and marvel at how efficiently she used that melody.

One other Kirsty/Pogues collaboration that springs to mind is "He Never Mentioned Love," which she wrote with Jem, and which is my favorite song on Electric Landlady.

As for "Miss Otis Regrets/Just One Of Those Things," the video always makes me laugh because there's so much going on it, which I suspect made filming it either a lot of fun or a complete pain in the ass. There are some very, umm, memorable outfits in that one, too. I don't think it's possible to watch the 2nd half of the video and not grin when you see James at the piano. The Kirsty DVD is worth picking up just for that.
