The Treasure Chest - Pogues rarities box set

Post Fri Oct 15, 2004 6:41 am

Note: I've shamelessly lifted this text from shanemacgowan.com. - DzM
Just to clear this up - no box set this year. The box set will be rarities, demos etc. and it'll happen sometime in 2005.

Meanwhile, all seven studio albums plus bonus tracks are SEPARATE releases. These are released on November 15th. They are not available as a box set.

There is no release date for our live album yet but it is *likely* to be late November/early December. It's gonna be a good one, I think, and will wipe the so-called "Streams Of Whiskey" off the map.

Oh yes, and there's a Radiators (Plan 9) 4 track CD-EP released on 625 Records later this month. Called "Television Screen 2004", it includes the title song (with the new "Iraq" lyrics) recorded live at the Oxegen Festival in July and three tracks from the RTE radio session in July, not least Miss O'Riordan's new version of "Kitty Ricketts
".

Nice. I wonder how avaliable these will be in the u.s. I know there is always the "online" factor, but it would be great to see them in my local music store!

Damnit, this sounds so expensive... :( Wantwantwant! But I guess I will have to settle for waiting for that special rich man with heart problems and an intense wish to marry before he dies! 8)

Terry Woods Quartet / Pogues treasure chest box set

Post Sun Dec 26, 2004 2:35 pm

In 1986 or 7 the Pogues recorded most of the If I Should Fall album under the name of the Terry Woods Quartet, in order to side step their deal with Stiff Records. After signing with WEA, recording was begun again and none of the original recordings made the album. Kinda like Dylan recording Blood On The Tracks twice! Hope these original demos feature on the forthcoming rare trax box set.

Wow, very interesting stuff!......Just curious, how did you know about this little tidbit??

If demos of that quality are included in the Treasure Chest Box, I know that we'll all be in for a huge treat!.....

I'd still love to get my paws on a copy of the Fairytale of NY demo tape that was featured on the Fairytale special (found on Kufen's FTP a while back..), maybe it will be included in the box?

Mr. Chevron mentioned that the demo version Fairytale Of New York would be on the box set in a post on http://www.shanemacgowan.com. He also mentioned Pinned Down.

Some new info from Philip Chevron regarding planned releases (originally posted at the forum at http://www.shanemacgowan.com):

Mr Chevron:

There is so much work to do on the "Treasure Chest" that it may be next year before it surfaces, but it's fair to say that work continues steadily on it and we keep finding new items for it.

"Pogues At The Beeb" has been on the cards since 1995 at least, but I'm sure it will emerge at some point.

The live album (still untitled) from Brixton 2001 will be released in March.

To those who asked earlier about the cameras at the Manchester Evening News Arena last month: we DID make a film of the show, using 5 Cameras. But we HONESTLY have not decided what to do with it yet. Sometimes you need to put a little distance between the event and your appraisal of it.

Box set and unreleased tracks

Post Sat Jul 09, 2005 9:11 pm

edit: quote removed, irrelevant

Stupid thoughts here Philip, but years ago, before there was any talk around these parts about a reunion tour (I believe the general consensus was that it would never occur) there was speculation of a boxed set at some point (I believe many thought it'd occur in about 20 years (10 have now passed roughly)).

I guess the reissues are a very positive step in the right direction, and may be the equivalent. But anyway, this thread reminds me of thoughts I used to have. Is there much recorded material 'out there' (I know of the Hell's Ditch Sessions recordings) that has never, at any time, been released? Something that might at some point constitute a "Beatles Anthology" type of release?

I don't know about everyone else, but many of my favorite items in my Pogues collection are the b-sides: The Wild Rover, The Leaving of Liverpool, Repeal of the Licensing Laws, Whiskey You're The Devil, Muirshin Dirkin , The Parting Glass, The Limerick Rake, Squid out of Water, The First Day of Forever (a realy gem, often overlooked, if you ask me) and on and on and on.

Is there more of this stuff just waiting to be released some rainy day?

Be as vague as you like, I don't mind.

Coop
