Shane MacGowan, Philip Chevron, Mary Coughlan, Terry Woods and Frank Murray being interviewed by Dave Fanning on RTE radio in Ireland. Features a few Pogues songs being played; Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, The Limerick Rake, Honky Tonk Women, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (Extended Version) and Fairytale Of New York. These are the officially released versions. Some of the songs are cut out or shortened on the bootleg. I would guess the alcohol had flowed for some of the guests. Mary Coughlan swears during the broadcast, prompting Philip to say something like: "You can't do that Mary, this is RTE!". This is a really interesting interview and Shane is on great form. Arguably the best Pogues interview around.

As was common at that time Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah is an exteneded version featuring Darryl Hunt rapping in the middle of the song. This time his rap was The Beat Goes On. N.B. I remember seeing a couple of other Pogues gigs in the same tour when he was rapping a George Michael song (Careless Whisper?).

Fiesta/ Streets Of Sorrow- The Birmingham Six
This has been bootlegged on both audio and video formats. English TV show which was broadcast live and presented by Ben Elton. Each week the show featured a mixture of comedy acts and bands. This broadcast caused much controversy when The Birmingham Six was cut mid song. The editors cut to a commercial break before the last verse could be broadcast. In the TV show Points Of View the following week, the makers denied censorship and claimed that the show was overrunning. However, the song was banned by The Independent Broadcasting Authority shortly afterwards, effectively banning it from television. The ban was finally lifted when the Birmingaham Six were released form prison.

They still talk of this night in hushed tones in RTE. Believe it or not, I was hauled in from a previously-arranged chat (with either BP Fallon or Ferdia MacAnna) in an adjacent studio in an attempt to impose some sort of order on the chaos, as Fanning had completely lost control of the show. The fact that that's all I can remember should tell you how successful a ploy that was!
