Help improve the Discography

Post Wed Feb 15, 2006 8:31 pm

Fellow dwellers of this raft we call Medusa - your help is needed.

The Discography offered up here has never been as complete as it could be. I've made occasional efforts to update it, but there's always something I've missed. I've had to accept that I'm simply not obsessive/compulsive enough (or well funded enough) to hunt all these various obscure things down.

So how can you help?

I'm asking all of you obsessive/compulsive completist collectors out there to help me bring the Discography fully up-to-date. Let's make it accurately reflect everything that The Pogues have released (if this ends up being a big success and we run out of things to catalog, we can then move on to obsessively cataloging all the solo works too).

In order to keep this managable I need to ask that you submit updates/additions in a particilar format:

[Section]
[Title]
[Tracks]
[Catalog information & Formats]
[Date]
[Notes]

This will help me an awful lot to be able to actually use the information you provide. An example would be:

Singles
If I Should Fall From Grace With God
7" If I Should Fall From Grace With God/ Sally MacLennane (live)
12" & CD5 A Pair Of Brown Eyes(live)
Pogue Mahone FG1 (7" in Black, Red, Green and White Vinyl)
Pogue Mahone FG12 (12" in Black and Red Vinyl)
Pogue Mahone CDFG1 (CD5)
February 1988
Green and white cover, St. Patricks Day 17th March 1988
Limited edition Australian 7" & 12"

Thanks everyone! I'm looking forward to all of your help!

The intent here is not to copy somebody else's work (well - as much as factual lists representing the same data can vary). It's more about everyone helping to make the site better.

DzM,

I hope the following is of use to you:
ALL below are Singles. My alterations are in bold

Correction:
7" If I Should Fall From Grace With God (Remix- though it sounds the same as the album version)/ Sally MacLennane (live)
12" & CD5 If I Should Fall From Grace With Grace With God (Extended remix)/ A Pair Of Brown Eyes(live)
Pogue Mahone FG1 (7" in Black, Red, Green and White Vinyl)
Pogue Mahone FG12 (12" in Black and Red Vinyl)
Pogue Mahone CDFG1 (CD5)

(February 1988)

Correction:
7" Fiesta/ Sketches Of Spain (Short Version- not mentioned on sleeve)
12" & CD5 South Australia/ Sketches Of Spain (Long Version- not mentioned on sleeve) FMaxi Sally MacLennane (Live)/ A Pair of Brown Eyes (Live)
Pogue Mahone FG2 (7")
Pogue Mahone FG212 (12")
Pogue Mahone CDFG2 (CD5)

(July 1988)
N.B. CD version was only released in some countries- I am not sure which but I am pretty sure it was not released in UK.

Correction:
7" White City (Remix- not mentioned on sleeve) / Everyman Is A King
12", CD3 & Cass. The Star Of County Down
12" Lmtd. Maggie May (live)((677k))
WEA YZ409 (7")
WEA YZ409T (12")
WEA YZ409T? (12" limited edition with stickers)
WEA YZ409? (Cassette)
WEA YZ409CD (CD3)

(1989)

Answer to your query:
7" A Rainy Night in Soho (Remix) / Squid Out Of Water
12" Infinity((627k))
CD ???
WEA YZ603 (7")
WEA YZ603T (12")
WEA YZ603CD (CD5)

(1991)

Note: I'm not sure that this was released on CD. Can anyone verify?
This single was released on the same day as Poguetry In Motion was re-released on CD (when Rainy Night was remixed). All formats contributed to the "sales" of Rainy Night for UK singles chart purposes. So effectively Poguetry is the CD release for this single, even though the sleeve/title is different. Rainy Night was also released as a Cassette single, but I don't know the catalogue number.

I will see if I can make any more suggestions when I have a chance to read through the other sections and check my collection for any other rarities I may have.

Regards,
Michael.

The CD single FIESTA/Sally MacLennane (Live)/ A Pair of Brown Eyes (Live) was released in France by POGUE MAHONE RECORDS/OFF THE TRACK RECORDS (OTT36016).

The French 7" (OTT20016) was FIESTA/Sally MacLennane (Live) The first edition came in a special gatefold sleeve (similar to the IISGGF single) packaged in a special poly bag containing party novelties - streamers, confetti, balloons etc). This version is also distinguished by a gold sticker proclaiming our Award from "Academie Charles Cros - Grand Prix International du Disque 1988". The second pressing comes in a more straightforward pic sleeve with the same IISFFG-type design.

Other 7" editions I am aware of:

FIESTA/SKETCHES OF SPAIN

GERMANY: UPFRONT 6.15096) and MAXI (12") 6.20914
SPAIN: DRO 1D - 409 (Promo)
AUSTRALIA: FESTIVAL K 585 (Limited Edition)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The revised POGUETRY CD was WEA WEA YZ603CD

The RAINY NIGHT/SQUID cassette was WEA YZ603C

And here's an oddity which arrived this morning. I'm told this bootleg is a very limited pressing.

MEGA RARE 2006 japan only limited to 20 copies 7" from the 2005 Pogues tour.

The first 5 copies are made in clear vinyl. This is one of them.

The record has got 4 tracks:

A1 - 18th Day Of November (London 21th December 2005)

A2 - Fairytale Of New York with Ella Finer (London 21th December 2005)

B1 - Irish Rover with Ronnie Drew (Dublin 23th December 2005)

B2 - Happy Birthday (Dublin 23th December 2005)

The sleeve has got stickers on front and back.
There is also some of the fake snow from the original shows included and one of those tour copy flyers.

There appears to be no Catalogue number or even a matrix number!

Sound quality? Adequate - let's just say the miracle is it exists at all. An audience member is louder than Mac at the start of FoNY.

Sorry to go off-topic but have you heard my recordings of these? I'd like to know if they are the same because I do not want some blokes making money from something that was intended to be free for all fans

I haven't Mick, as the sound thing in my computer is ailing. But in fairness, if there really are only 20 copies of this EP, I don't think anyone's making pots of money.

If I were the cynical type I'd say that putting a sticker on it that says "1/20" or "Only 20 Copies Made" allows them to sell many hundreds more than they otherwise would.

From Promos section of discography:

12" Interview with Jem Finer and Darryl Hunt
Baktabak Records BAK2160 (Picture Disc) (1989) (UK)

This item is not a promo. Baktabak were a company that specialised in releasing loads of 12" interview picture discs of numerous bands. These were available in many UK high street record shops in the late 1980's, which is where I got my copy.

From singles section:

7" A Pair Of Brown Eyes (Short Version) / Whiskey You're The Devil
12" Muirshin Durkin
Stiff BUY220 (7", 7" Picture Disc & 12")

(March 1985)

The 12" single had the album version of Brown Eyes, but not the short version.
