Sure. I know a Tin Machine album (did they even have names,
Oy Vey! Baby apart??) is never going to excite me the way
Station To Station did, but I am fascinated by the process in which David Bowie, the master of reinvention, attempts to recast himself as just a bloke in a band, a disguise too far, even for him. The obvious question What Was He Thinking? sheds light on not just what preceded Tin Machine but also what happened next.
Perhaps this point of view is not quite so interesting to people who have a life outside music, but nevertheless, it is the reason most artists continue to make records. We do it not because there are expectations to live up to but because it's what we do. We do it not to prove there's more where "The Sickbed Of Cuchulainn" came from but to find out what else there is.[/quote]
I think I understand what you mean, but if The Pogues came back with an electronic album it is quite likely that I will not be a particular fan of it cos it´s not my kind of music. And therefore I should be disappointed.
On the other hand, if The Pogues came back with a Rum Sodomy 2 or If I should fall 2 it is obviously that there will be comparisons going round. That´s basicalls what I meant that you have more to lose than to gain.
But I - and certainly lots of people here on this forum - trust in you that you make the right decisions.
