The rest I consider shite.

The live disc from Brixton is astounding.

"Shite"?! What a ridiculous statement.

You can see why we're not exactly all rushing into the studio to deliver an 8th album, can't you?

I've had to think about this for a few days but I've made up my mind and here is the order of preference I'd put them in:

1) If I Should Fall From Grace With God
2) Rum Sodomy and The Lash/Red Roses For Me
3) Hells Ditch
4) Waiting For Herb
5) Peace and Love
6) Pogue Mahone

Pogue Mahone being the one I listen to least. I do like some of the stuff on it, but there is loads I will flip over.

Do you really think Pogue Mahone is better than Ditch and Peace?! :? Please illuminate a bit.
What kind of fuckery is this?

Well, for you there´s definitely more to lose than to gain.

I always used to listen to Hell´s ditch before a big exam, and it has always worked very well. So I feel a huge bond to that record.

Red Roses For Me and Rum Sodomy & The Lash are fantastic records cos they´re so bloody emotional. What I love particularly about those two records are the rather rough mixes, at least compared to If I Should Fall and Peace And Love. They´re great records too, but I think the mix is a bit too polished for The Pogues.

Herb and Pogue Mahone contain some nice songs but they certainly lack good songwriting and emotion. There are hardly any songs to feel comfortable in, as Christy Moore once said about Shane´s songs.

That's not what I meant. I have nothing to lose either way. I would evaluate any new work on its merits, as any musician would. I do not carry around in my head a set of Red Roses-ometers, FallFromGrace-ometers, Rum-ometers etc. Unfortunately, there will always be fans who do. They don't want, or need, a new album and no new material could ever hope to compete.

Well, there have been bands who came back with new songs after some time and managed to disappoint their fans. The Sex Pistols come into my mind right now.

Maybe sometimes a musician / a writer / a director etc. loses the ability to judge his/her work !?

But I believe you´re not only a musician in your own right, but you´re also a fan of certain singers or bands. Have you never compared their new record to their older ones ?

Only if he/she/it is exceptionally stupid and/or greedy.

Sure. I know a Tin Machine album (did they even have names,Oy Vey! Baby apart??) is never going to excite me the way Station To Station did, but I am fascinated by the process in which David Bowie, the master of reinvention, attempts to recast himself as just a bloke in a band, a disguise too far, even for him. The obvious question What Was He Thinking? sheds light on not just what preceded Tin Machine but also what happened next.

Perhaps this point of view is not quite so interesting to people who have a life outside music, but nevertheless, it is the reason most artists continue to make records. We do it not because there are expectations to live up to but because it's what we do. We do it not to prove there's more where "The Sickbed Of Cuchulainn" came from but to find out what else there is.

When did The Sex Pistols ever record any new music now a days. I saw them about four years ago in concert in Boston, and they were playing just the same old usual classics.

Why this unusual venom towards Peace and Love. In my opinion, a rather worthy follow up to If I Should Fall From Grace With God.

I think I understand what you mean, but if The Pogues came back with an electronic album it is quite likely that I will not be a particular fan of it cos it´s not my kind of music. And therefore I should be disappointed.

On the other hand, if The Pogues came back with a Rum Sodomy 2 or If I should fall 2 it is obviously that there will be comparisons going round. That´s basicalls what I meant that you have more to lose than to gain.

But I - and certainly lots of people here on this forum - trust in you that you make the right decisions. :)

Quite true. I think it is a great album, as is Hells Ditch. Ok, maybe they're not quite as good as RSatL, or IISFFGWG, but they're certainly close.
