I know Shane has the songwriting credit for the track but I always heard a significant input from yourself in it's style... am I way off the mark?

Well, it's me on BVs both the BBC and Straight To Hell versions, though I can't claim any input in the composition of the song. If they gave out writing credits for vocal arrangements, I'd be a very rich man by now.
