That laugh nearly made me feel better about missing out on tickets earlier, but since you reminded me of that horrible foggy day I suddenly feel much better. I have nothing to complain about compared to you, friend.

snicker.... literally, drunken ass.

There are more versions of this charming children's song...

The Worms Crawl In

Did you ever think, as a hearse goes by,
That you might be the next to die?
They wrap you up in a big white sheet,
And bury you down about six feet deep

They put you in a long pine box
And cover you over with dirt and rocks
And all goes well, for about a week,
And then the coffin begins to leak!

The worms crawl in and the worms crawl out
The worms that crawl in are lean and thin
The worms that crawl out are fat and stout
The worms play pinochle on your snout.

They eat your eyes, they eat your nose
They eat the goodies between your toes
They use your bones as telephones
and call you up but you're no longer at home

Your eyes fall in and your hair falls out
Your brains come pouring out your snout
Your eyes pop out, your teeth decay
and that's the end of a peaceful day

You turn the color of sickening green
And pus comes out like butter and cream
You wipe it up with a piece of bread
And that's what you eat when you are dead
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Andrew seemed genuinely surprised that I'd heard this song before the Pogues performed it. "That's just a song that my mates and I used to sing on the playground at school."
“I know all those people that were in the film [...] But that’s when they were young and strong and full of life, you know?”

Not just in the playground, but I have memories of performing the song with a group of mates on stage when I was about 10 years old...
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

A darkly humorous ending to a great album.

I had no idea it was a childrens rhyme... I always assumed it was an old, dark folk song.

I believe you can catch worms by kissing your pet dog.

Just like "Death is not the end" on Nick Cave´s album "Murder ballads".
"Just once I would like to see the coyote eat that feathered freak !" (Sledge Hammer)

two of the very best album endings (even without the macgowan connections...)
I went and set the Thames on fire,
Now I must come back down
She's laughing in her sleeve at me,
I can feel it in my bones

Only if you use tongues, or lick it's arse. It's a bugger getting the dog to keep still though.

most traumatizing experience of my life
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.

it's a quite good impression of shane, scream and all, if that's what you mean.

Andrew doesn't sound anything like Shane. Shane does back up vocals if that's what you heard, but Andrew's a lot deeper and Van Morrison-y.

I too recognised this song when I first heard it, as one I /we used to sing as children...likely while camping, and around the camp fire.
