I can think of several Pogues songs I just don't like, but appreciate them for what they are (where I wouldn't give most other bands the benefit of the doubt), but of the ones that are rated high, I can't say I think they are overrated.

Y'know. Next time someone gets bored and wants to start a thread, why don't we just do a "what's your favorite cheese?" or "what are you cooking/eating right now?" thread, instead. Just a thought. No offence.

To say that the Pogues have an overrated song is rubbish. The Pogues dont get enough credit for the magnificent beauty of their songs in the first place, and I dont skip any tracks when listening to a Pogues album, i go from cover to cover.

i dont think any pogues song is overated, if by "overated" you mean which don't you like, i still would say the term still doesnt apply to any of their work - plus, who would be the one doing the overating anyway?

Live in the states for a time, the Pogues are the most underrated here. No one seems to mention of them, no playing of Fairytale on the radio at Christmas or anytime. You will hopefully get a few songs on the Indie stations on St Paddys Day if you're lucky.

It's tragic.

fairytale of New York is a song that has got extreme amounts of airtime therefore it is obvious that most people will say that, for myself fiesta is my least favourite song, though not over rated

I don't think The Pogues have ever done an overrated song- though obviously some songs are better than others. If you were to rank all the singles in terms of highest chart placings then Fiesta would be number 3 or 4 on the list (reached number 24 in UK singles chart). I suppose that's about as near to overrated as you get- there were other more worthy Pogues songs that didn't even chart, but it's still better than what most other bands release.

Although i don't dislike any of the pogues songs i will still skip the odd one when listening to an album. This is mainly, however, to do with what mood i'm in and what i feel like listening to.

Like if i'm in the mood for listening to something fast and lively, then i'd probably skip A Rainy Night In Soho  :)

The only song I nearly always skip is "Rainbow Man". Pretty often I skip "Fiesta". I like "Fiesta" but sometimes it just doesn't seem to fit.

"Overrated" Pogues Songs? *gasp*

Post Thu Sep 28, 2006 11:44 pm

Of course we love all of their music, but are there any songs that you hear people talking about that you jsut don't really like all that much - or not see what the fuss is about?

There aren't many but...

NW3 - the version I have is very poor quality, Shane's voice goes in and out, the music itself isn't great and overall it just seems an average song for The Pogues. However I've read people saying it's their favourite etc

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah - Although it's growing on me, and I'll listen to it if it comes on the CD/MP3 player, it's never been one I'd skip to.

Kitty - Maybe it's because it's slow.. it's definately not a bad song... I just don't like it. Sounds like Danny Boy... which I can't stand. Again, it's a good enough song but I can't understand why lots of people want it on the xmas set-list.

Of course we're all entitled to our own opinions blah blah so let's not take offence!

I find The Auld Triangle quite irritating actually, I've never liked anyone singing it.

Rainy Night in Soho is not overrated, I don't even hear it given that much praise. Fiesta and Fairytale are hugely overrated. Don't get me wrong, they're both great songs that most other bands couldn't handle and I like them, but Fairytale being their "biggest" song to me is ridiculous. Fall From Grace, Sick Bed, Shannon, Pair of Brown Eyes are all more worthy to me, and Rainy Night in Soho is more romantic to me, even though Fairytale is supposed to be a Christmas song.
