Unreleased single tracks

Post Fri Jan 18, 2008 7:39 pm

Will these tracks from the singles ever make it onto CD?
Remastered would be nice!

Boys From The County Hell (no swearing)
A Pair Of Brown Eyes (single version)
A Rainy Night In Soho (US mix)
Haunted
Junk Theme
Hot Dogs With Everything
The Irish Rover (12" version with the count in)
IISFFGWG (7" remix)
IISFFGWG (12" remix)
Sally MacLennane - Live (IISFFGWG/Fiesta B-side)
A Pair Of Brown Eyes - Live (IISFFGWG/Fiesta B-side)
Fiesta (single version)
Sketches Of Spain (12" version)
Yeah,Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (long version)
Young Ned Of The Hill (dub version)
White City (single version)
Maggie May - Live (White City B-side)
Hell's Ditch (instrumental)
Whiskey In The Jar (extended version)
Miss Otis Regrets/Just One Of Those Things
Sayonara (single version)
The Sick Bed Of Cuchulainn - Live (FONY '91 B-side)
In And Out
Turkish Song Of The Damned - Live/Joe Strummer (Tuesday Morning B-side)
London Calling - Live/Joe Strummer (Tuesday Morning B-side)
I Fought The Law - Live/Joe Strummer (Tuesday Morning B-side)
Tuesday Morning - Live (How Come B-side)
Big City - Live (How Come B-side)

I think that's all. Let me know if I've missed any or if any have been released on CD.
A singles box set would be nice (like the Clash one with original artwork)

Yes, I have all of those on bootleg CDs, but I know that everyone of those songs were either released singles and B-sides.

There are, in fact, two different versions of the Poguetry In Motion 7" E.P.. Both were released at the time the release came out. The covers have the same design, but the versions of A Rainy Night In Soho are markedly, not just slightly, different. There is a great version without horns playing on one of them, whilst the other has horns playing.

The alternative version of Rainy Night, with no Flugelhorn, is known as the "Oboe version" and is on the box set. I know it was released in the USA and Canada [MCA Records] instead of the more common Flugelhorn version. But are you saying that, in the UK, Stiff Records also snuck out some pressings with the Oboe Version??? If so, it is entirely consistent with the Stiff Records way of doing things, but I have to say I did not know they had done this and I can't remember ever hearing the Oboe version on Stiff copy of the record. It may be a collectors item.

Yes, I have it. I guessed it might well be an as-yet largely unrecognized collector's item, as I have never seen any reference to it in Record Collector Magazine or their Rare Records Price Guide. It is the one I bought on the E.P.'s release date. The only difference on the record is as follows:- Mine says "Produced by Elvis Costello" on the cover and on the label.

That is from memory, as I have not seen the flugelhorn version for a while, as mine is the other version. I recall having looked for a difference, anmd having found only that, on the cover and labe. The catalogue number is BUY 243, on both the label and the disk. The run-off has "BUY 243 A-1U-1-1 _ x1" and "timton" written on the "A"-side, and "BUY 243 B-1U-1-1 _ x1" and "T>" on the "B"-side.

Think you may be onto something with the run off numbers as my copies [all flugelhorn versions]have
the run-off "BUY 243 A-2U-1-1 _ x1" as opposed to your A-1 run .

Only difference in my copies is one has a small printing cut error in that the top fold has a red line through the bud ad ,which is no way as interesting as a different version of a song but hey . Guess I will just have to wait for the new cd or dig out the MCA Canda casstte .

That would be the 1991 reissue, before anyone gets too excited about it. Canada was the only territory to release the original "Poguetry" on CD.

I bought the UK Stiff 12" version of the 'Poguetry' EP when it came out - this has the 'oboe' version of A Rainy Night in Soho - i will try to find it and post the cat no etc details - i have always thought this was the superior version - does anyone know if this is collectable? (The 7" version a friend bought around the same time had the 'flugelhorn' version). Been pondering this for years now - any further info appreciated.
