Yes, I have all of those on bootleg CDs, but I know that everyone of those songs were either released singles and B-sides.

There are, in fact, two different versions of the Poguetry In Motion 7" E.P.. Both were released at the time the release came out. The covers have the same design, but the versions of A Rainy Night In Soho are markedly, not just slightly, different. There is a great version without horns playing on one of them, whilst the other has horns playing.

The alternative version of Rainy Night, with no Flugelhorn, is known as the "Oboe version" and is on the box set. I know it was released in the USA and Canada [MCA Records] instead of the more common Flugelhorn version. But are you saying that, in the UK, Stiff Records also snuck out some pressings with the Oboe Version??? If so, it is entirely consistent with the Stiff Records way of doing things, but I have to say I did not know they had done this and I can't remember ever hearing the Oboe version on Stiff copy of the record. It may be a collectors item.

Yes, I have it. I guessed it might well be an as-yet largely unrecognized collector's item, as I have never seen any reference to it in Record Collector Magazine or their Rare Records Price Guide. It is the one I bought on the E.P.'s release date. The only difference on the record is as follows:- Mine says "Produced by Elvis Costello" on the cover and on the label.

The catalogue number is BUY 243, on both the label and the disk. The run-off has "BUY 243 A-1U-1-1 _ x1" and "timton" written on the "A"-side, and "BUY 243 B-1U-1-1 _ x1" and "T>" on the "B"-side.

That would be the 1991 reissue, before anyone gets too excited about it. Canada was the only territory to release the original "Poguetry" on CD.

If anyone is looking for the Canadian cd version, the catalogue number is MCAMD-36015.. Quite hard to find this cd nowadays

I bought the UK Stiff 12" version of the 'Poguetry' EP when it came out - this has the 'oboe' version of A Rainy Night in Soho - i will try to find it and post the cat no etc details - i have always thought this was the superior version - does anyone know if this is collectable? (The 7" version a friend bought around the same time had the 'flugelhorn' version). Been pondering this for years now - any further info appreciated.
