I have seen The Pogues play Oretown live. A bit boring live actually (my opinon).

Some of the songs on PM are really good:
How Come
Amadie
Love You 'Till The End
Bright Lights
Oretown
Tosspint

pogue mahone live

for me "pogue mahone" was far better then wfh...although it wasn´t a REALLY pogues" album for me. it felt different without shane. terry, james and terry. but as an album it is a great piece of music..and i remeber well the concerts in berlin and leipzig 1995 were amazing...they played old songs like streams of whisky or boy from the county hell again. unfortunately i haven´t heard a booklet of that stuff...
btw didn´t likes how come very much, but the video was cool....SPIDER: where is it gone? never found it anywhere?

And if you were a registered user you would be able to edit it (rather than to blush)

It must have been a weird thing for those guys that joined the group for this album. They joined a band that they probably were fans of or at least liked and yet had to know that they would never be considered "real Pogues" by the fans.

I have always rated Pogue Mahone to be a great album and is the CD I have been listening to in the car for the last few weeks, the following tracks would stand up against most Pogues tracks
Living In A World Without Her
Love You Till The End
Bright Lights
Where That Love's Been Gone
The Sun And The Moon
I went to the Pogue Mahone tour at Wolverhampton a couple of weeks before the album was issued and will never forget hearing Tosspint for the first time CLASSIC

I have always assumed that I was an owd git and everyone else liked the later stuff as much as the old stuff!

After P+L ("What is all this mediterranean stuff doing coming from an irish influenced band") and Hells Ditch ("What have they done?") I left the Pogues (and music in general) to whatever they wished to do. Without feeling let down, I was disappointed they had left their original leaning (not surprised though - note all great bands evolve over time [beatles/stones/half man half biscuit])

I have never bought or listened to Waiting for Herb or Pogue Mahone but since the gigs last month have been toying with the idea of getting them.

Would this be a wise move or is this one of my dafter questions?

The wisest move would be to try them. ;)
They are pretty good and worth getting, I think. If you want something closer to the "old" Pogues, go for Pogue Mahone first. You can also listen to samples at Amazon to help you decide: Waiting for Herb, Pogue Mahone.

Plastic Paddy: I must admit that I love Peace and Love as well as Hell´s ditch:-)
But anyway, no problem - Waiting for Herb is imho full of experiments, there are very good musical themes, but vocals are sort of...well I don´t like them (sorry Spider), but on PM the singing is more than okay I think.
+It is one of the most consistent albums in means of quality.
Only tracks I don´t like so much are How Come, Love you ´till the end and Pont Mirabeau.
Great album, I don´t worry to say it is one of their best.

I'm glad to know it's not just me. I think the album starts out fairly strongly but peters out midway through (what would be Side Two on vinyl).

I agree with Zuzana. I think you should at least try them. You might surprise yourself and like them.

There is some good music on them 8)

I'm a fan of the Pogue Mahone album, and still enjoyed the gigs over that period too, although they were very different to the earlier days. I respect Phil Chevron's earlier comments but still regard this as a Pogues album, which was after all remastered and reissued along with the others. I find it an interesting, if slightly off-centre period in the band's history.

Please don't misunderstand Andy - of course it's a Pogues album. What I meant in saying "But I think we can all agree at this point that it's not the Pogues unless we are all present and correct". was from 2001 onwards.

I always thought the last time I went to see you guys before the reuinnon tours in 2001 was in 93 at the Liverpool Royal Court (which was the waiting for herb tour I think) that there wasnt the same energy. Even the shane no show gigs in the late eighties early nineties had a kind of energy about them that had just seemed to have gone by the time that tour rolled around. When I trotted a long to the Manchester Apollo in Dec 01 I kind of didnt expect much from the gig but it was just like the old days with the same amazing energy. I kind of see the albums a bit like that with the last two albums just not having the same magic. For gods sake do another album
