Cotton Fields

Watching the documentary last night on Shane I had a distant recollection of an interview after Peace and Love was released and Shane saying he had written the song Cotton Fields for Bruce Springsteen. Does anybody have any info on this? Apologies if it is my mind playing silly buggers!
