Top Of The Pops

Post Mon Dec 19, 2005 3:00 pm

When the Pogues performed FONY on top of the pops in 1987, the BBC wanted Kirsty to say "ass" in place of "arse".

However i didn't think the band were playing live, at least Shane wasn't singing live (and i don't think he wasn't playing the piano at the start either).

So was Kirsty actually singing live then or what actually happened??

Kirsty pre-recorded the lyric change and then, like the rest of us, mimed.

When you go on The 'Pops can you choose whether you want to play live or mime or do they tell you what to do?

They change the rules periodically and for any number of reasons. I don't know what the present guidelines are.

Will the Pogues be on TOTP this Christmas? Or would they show the old TOTP performance if FONY reaches the top 10 and hopefully #1?

The new DVD tells us that the TOTP version within is rare.

Aren't we all lucky to share in this uncommon item.
