like many HONEST people...i was dragged in by shane...pretty electrifying. but then, as with most people, got bombarded by what is the pogues, in their entirety. at first, the cd's without shane in the band seemed laughable. not now.
but i'm pretty well un-educated compared to most people here. who took over as primary song writer after shane left?
i'm listening to the song Rainbow Man... and going ... i love this song. but why does it sound familiar? being the Huge Who fan that i am, i realized. it's pete townshend...early 90's. not a ripoff or anything, but it could have been written by him, and vice versa. sounds just like his writing. townshend, i hold in the highest regard, though... there's just amazing stuff coming from EVERYONE. who took over the bulk of the singing?

spider has a GREAT VOICE. not necessarily a great front-man sing singy voice. but... a great voice. i'm envious. so... just help me out here.

Call me disingenuous if you want, but I owned If I Should Fall From Grace With God, Peace & Love, and Rum Sodomy & The Lash long before I had any idea who Shane was. At first I was unable to tell the difference in the various writing styles, and was simply captivated by the distinctive sound, musicianship, writing, and distinctive voice of the lead singer (and I'll admit here too that I had trouble coming to the realization that there were sometimes other singers on tracks ... I assumed that Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six, Jesse James, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, South Australia, etc were all voiced by the same man). But I'll leave that little rant for some other time.

After the split song writing duties were pretty much spread around, but the bulk of it fell to Jem. Everyone else had contributions though.

Spider took over vocal duties for Waiting for Herb and Pogue Mahone.
