Although, it's not really. Only downloads made from Dec 19 onwards count towards the proper chart. FoNY has been downloaded literally thousands of times in the past 2 weeks alone as people compile their personal Christmas playlists. Not that we're ungrateful.

Right. I've just been Listening to Radio 1 Chart Show, and they actually had a discussion regarding fairytale downloads - thus more publicity!

They said that the single has had shedloads of Downloads already, enough on its own to chart in the actual top 40, but it won't count to the proper chart until the other Formats are released tomorrow - Thus meaning the downlaods from the past ofrtnight or so still go towards the actual sales of the single! YAY!!!!

They also went on to say that the Pogues are a really, really Serious Contender for the xmas number one now, and I reckon it could be pulled off. seriously now everyone, We can do it between us - just buy about 10 copies each (three at a time or else it won't count) and I'm pretty sure thats a lot of singles sold alone!

its only £20 and it all goes to 2 really worthy causes. tomorrow I'm buying 10 copies, and a further twenty on christmas eve to boost sales a little bit.

Download sales between today (Sunday) & end of play Saturday 24th will contribute towards the Xmas chart.
FONY is doing very well @ i-Tunes - 3rd highest download they have at the moment . A quick look at the Amazon chart shows we are behind Westlife & Nizlopi their singles chart which takes pre-sales into consideration.
Nizlopi looks like it's sold about 70k this week - it could well do the same again this week, Westlife could sell 80k+ but their album is already out and people may steer towards the album . Phillip is correct in that a lot of people will have bought 'fairytale...' already but that said with Jonathan Ross, CD:UK & the documentary the promo side of things is red hot so it's not over yet.
Good luck & fingers crossed.......

iTunes offers exclusive Pogues re-release
By Jonny Evans

A special version of classic Christmas track, 'The Fairytale of New York' will be released exclusively through iTunes tomorrow (Tuesday December 20).

The download-only version features Shane McGowan and guest singer, Katie Melua, who takes the singing role originally filled by Kirsty MacColl, who was killed by a power boat while scuba diving with her sons in a restricted diving area off Cozumel, Mexico on December 18, 2000.

Take a look at the UK iTMS (Change country at bottom of the iTMS), this is a direct link to the song. Off course only UK-people can buy this download, which is by the way not a single but just the track from the IISFFGWG-album.

I'm afraid the download MacRua is talking about will also be UK-only. :?

Just downloaded the live version off ITunes. A pretty good version. Not quite the same without Kirsty.

Interestingly FONY w/ Kirsty occupies three positions in the Top 100 Track of iTMS:UK:

3, 32, and 81.

When put altogether I wonder if that bounces it to #2 or #1?

Be sure to buy it in batches of 3 or less or they may be disqualified from counting towards the chart !!!
