Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it. I will probably go for the ultimate collection although I do liek getting normal albums as opposed to compilations as it gives you a better idea of the band and I normally end up buying the albums after the compilation anyway because I want more after a taster. Anyway thanks for all your help, you've been great.

I'd always normally (for any artist, not just the Pogues) opt for a studio album rather than a compilation.

But in this case I'd agree that the Ultimate Collection is a good choice, especially because, as Mick said, you get the "bonus" live cd. Which is brilliant, and a great introduction to the Pogues.

Then, Jimi, try to "borrow" your old man's stuff.

Help! Friend is a Pogues virgin!

Post Fri Nov 09, 2007 7:49 am

I've a buddy that I'm going to see The Pogues with at Christmas he's never heard any albums and knows only the three most popular Pogues (And still can't even get those lyrics right) Being Fairytale, Dirty Old Town and Irish Rover - which yesterday he said to me "Oh, That was The Pogues."

So I'm going to knock him up a CD I don't just want it to be of what the set list could be as 1) The set list has tended to change at the UK & Irish shows in recent past and 2) I want to give him a borad range of Pogues songs not just the typical stuff.

I thinking maybe three CDs, Aprt from the "Greatest Hits" e.g. Sally Mac, Rainynight which will be in. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks
Si.

I´d say the whole Red Roses For Me.

But ofcourse, a Cd with the last set list would be good, (To get a hang of it) and then you just add in the rest of the "Must Know songs" :D

He´s got something to look forward to and i´d think he´ll join you for the next years to come aswell. 8)

Cheers

And here is me thinking Pogues virgin is somebody who's never got laid by any Pogue.. Was eager to help somehow.. And looks like I was terribly wrong again. But it's male friend anyway, right?
Well, what about Ultimate Collection CDs then? 2 Cds, one studio + one live, they give general idea about The Pogues' work and how they sound live.

To start, play your friend the Poguetry in Motion EP. In my opinion, that release best expresses the Pogues as a band in the most concise and direct way. If he is still interested after that, just give him the first three albums because they are all pretty untouchable.

I recommend he buys the first five Pogues albums. Now that they are readily available at a reasonable price, or at least presuade him to buy the first three.

The set-list hasn't changed that much now... maybe 2 or 3 songs.
