I think it's fair to say that despite the considerable merits of both those albums, you have the best of the Pogues ahead of you, you lucky thing. 8)

New Pogues Fan!

Post Tue Feb 14, 2006 11:12 pm

Bought 'Rum, Sodomy and the Lash' and 'If I Should Fall From Grace With God' just before Christmas last year. I heard one of you on the radio a while back saying that they were your two favourites. I'd been meaning to get some Pogues stuff for a while and I have to say great shit!! Absolutely fantastic!!! I really like some of the extra stuff as well on the re-issues! London Girl, Rainy Night in Soho etc. Can anyone recommend any other Pogues records, dvd's etc?

I think the majority of fans would rate Red Roses For Me as the next best, and the extra tracks on the reissue are superb. Having said that, I think they are all great albums and well worth getting.

I would strongly recommend buying Red Roses For Me next, then Peace and Love and Hell's Ditch. It's up to you whether or not to pick up Waiting For Herb and Pogues Mahone, while each are good, but they can't hold a candle to the MacGowan era Pogues.

I'm glad that you finally discovered the brilliance that is The Pogues!!!!!!!!

I DO highly reccommend getting Herb and Mahone after u get the macgowan albums, and also highly reccomend getting Macgowan's two solo albums, The Snake and The Crock of Gold, and even the rare Old Stuff to hear some of his great b-sides.

Yes, I DO recommend especially Pogue Mahone as it is imho lyrically better than albums with Shane and musically great. I won´t say better or worse, because it is just different, but it is definitely great (in my top three of Pogues albums)
