Honky Tonk Woman

Post Mon Dec 05, 2005 8:05 pm

Am i alone in thinking that by covering this song that The Pogues were attempting to show that they can do one of the most popular bands in America's song better than the band itself? Or was it simply because they liked the song? Either way, great song, and in my opinion it is better than the original Rolling Stones version.

Well ... Philip has made it seem pretty clear that the band themselves weren't really into Honky Tonk Women; that it was teh record company pushing for it:

Was this the case with the song itself, or just the release of it as a single after Shane had left (as it had already appeared previously as a B-side)?

I personally like the track. I think Spider's vocals sound great.

It's so hard to top a great song by a brilliant band. Covering a lesser known song always works out best. The Pogues are my favorite band but I am a huge Stones fan as well and it would be so difficult for any band to play one of their songs as brilliantly as they do. Let's hear The Rolling Stones cover A Rainy Night in Soho. heheh. It might be ok but would not compare to The Pogues.

The Di-alike was disconcertingly like the real thing during the shoot. She brightened a tedious day's filming.
