From the Scotsman:
X Factor winner Shayne Ward's debut single sold 313,784 copies on its first day, making it the third-fastest selling record of all time. About 250,000 copies were sold over the counter and the rest as internet downloads. Shayne last night appeared certain of victory in the battle for the top slot.
Matt Phillips, spokesman for the BPI, said: "Seven out of ten singles are sold as downloads and they are going to play a significant part in deciding this year's Christmas number one."
B*gger. (though that arithmetic seems wrong...)
