philipchevron: Thank you very much. So your opinion is we should rob him someday? :-)

Mac Rua: By the way, when mishearing sheet music, I think it is good to use some sound studio program (I use cool edit 2000), because with some practise, you can "highlight" some instrument above others. Then mishearing is much easier. And you can hear some not very well hearable things, because imho it is very easy to catch the tune as sang or played when playing without singing, but mishearing stuff played when someone is singing...well, I don´t think it is very easy.

Aha, seems Mac Rua was true rather than me.
Donald Rumsfeld? You mean that ...? I should get angry. If I wouldn´t be so lazy.

By the way I worry that Spider doesn´t have any crude oil.

By the way - am I wrong or you did play Thousands are sailing in other pitch than on the studio one? Because I found alot of live recordings start with C (If I am not wrong, which can happen, of course), while I couldn´t catch the studio one (not that I would try too much, but it wasn´t the same I think)

But, Pyro, it's only fair to point out that Rumsfeld, while I cannot vouch for his command of Czech, apperently considers English to be his FIRST language.

Whistle Music

Post Mon Nov 14, 2005 9:13 pm

Does anyone know how to play the whistle parts to any of the songs or know a site that has it? The fingering for the whistle and the bagpipes is the same and I play the small pipes in a band and we want to do some pogues song and this would be a hell of a lot easier than trying to figure it all out by ear.

It is very easy to mishear it especially when you know where to begin.
Very easy ones are - dirty old down, whale fisheries, pistol for paddy garcia (could sound lovely), fairytale, thousands are sailing (if you have something tuned in C-for mr.C, or in A for mr.Mac), sayonara, planxty noel hill, rain street, lullaby of london...+almost everything in first two albums.
Currently I am working on battle march medley because I like it very much, but this one is rather hard. If you want some more info about songs listed above (+any other, but in their case I can´t promise anything), write mi at

Depends which songs you want to know about. Give us a couple and you should get a good bit of help. Any favorites, and which key would help too.
I love it when a plan comes together.

The artist formerly known as Guest.

MacIntyre: I have learnt only Dirty old town from those. It is fairly easy. If you start in D, then go in G,A,H...that´s the start...can you read sheet music? If so, I can send you some.
And Dirty old town is really easy when you know where to begin and have some feeling for whistle.
