Strictly speaking, Macrua is correct, though parts of Kilburn and West Hampstead do overlap to some extent and it was Shane's intention to allude to the old working class neighbourhood as a whole rather than the fashionable yuppie suburb of Hampstead. It's a bit like writing about the historic if slightly grizzly Grand Canal/Mount Street Bridge area of Dublin and calling it "Dublin 4". Not incorrect exactly, but misleading.

I think it would be great if NW3 was played on the next tour

Just found this thread while reistening compulsively to NW3 (and the rest of the box set as well, truly) after some time.
See, I thought I'd check out the exact lyrics and found the Medusa Fora, which I should really really get to investigate at depth. Those are great conversations you have here.

Anyway, just wanted to mention the fact (maybe already pointed at somewhere else) that there's a verse in the song (At the top of Pentonville Road / I watched the sun setting) that seems to be a nod to a painting by anglo-irish painter John O'Connor (1830-1889), From Pentonville Road Looking West: Evening.

Wether it was a conscious effor on Shane's behalf or a coincidence (which would make it even better, imho) I guess it adds even more nuances and layers of meaning to an already gorgeous song.

I know this post is kinda old but those chords can't possibly be right. The song is in A, not in G. And some chords are missing. This is more like it:

I put the chords above the text a little bit randomly, just listen to the song to know when to play them. I play this on the mandolin (with the intro and all), but it should be the same on the guitar.

The chords used on the net are from Mother Mo Chroi. Maybe it's played in G? I don't know but it's possible. You can easily convert the song to be played in G anyway if you wish, but to play along the recording it must be played in A.

Edit: and the forum even fucked up the way I wrote the chords. But these are right, just listen to the song and you'll know when to play which.
