Waxie's Dargle + Leaving of Liverpool

Post Tue Nov 08, 2005 12:15 am

Who sings "Waxie's Dargle" with Shane? Also, who is it that shouts and stuff on the end of "Leaving of Liverpool"?
“An’ this is the last of Brummy,” he said, leaning on his spade and looking away over the tops of the ragged gums on the distant range.

Waxie's was the pogues whistle player was it not? I need to go listen to Liverpool before offering an opinion.............least favourite pogues tune due to inbuilt Mancunian bias.....................

I'm fairly sure it's two people shouting in the end. It's my favorite song, but I do like Manc's football team.

Edit: This reminds me of one time I woke up in the middle of the night. I woke up, and all I could think about was "Worsley... Where the hell have I heard that?" Then I logged onto this when I turned on the computer and remembered that's where you're from! :P

But remember "it's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me...", so that should be ok even for a Mancunian.

Being a Manchester lad from Fallowfield, I understand, I work in Worsley myself, in fact I'm sat in work typing this. Don't get the Manchester references in the song, Am I being simple, won't be the first time.

I'm going through massive Pogues phase at the mo, I have to make a conscience decision NOT to listen to ‘em, Madnes!!!!!!!!

PS Did you know that "Dirty Old Town" was written about Salford, or so I was told.

Yes, that's right - Salford was the birthplace of the song's author, Ewan MacColl.
