Can somebody help me? Aside from the version with Cait on Straight To Hell, did The Pogues ever do a version of Danny Boy? I have a version of the song knocking about but don't know if it's The Pogues or Popes.

im not sure if the pogues did a version of the song but i know for sure that shane and the popes recored a version of it.

Strictly speaking, the cast of Straight to Hell sings "Danny Boy" on Straight To Hell Returns, but there is a very good John Peel show version in the vaults somewhere, from around 1984.

"McNamara's Band" yes. An oversight.

I have a copy of a radio session version somewhere. I love that version of Danny Boy- Spider's tin whistle playing on it sounds fantastic. Can't remember whether the one I have is Peel session or Bannerman session though.

Yeah that peel session one is totally good, but the version ive got has quite a bit of hissing in it. Also MacGowan did Danny Boy didnt he. Its on the rare ould stuff compilation.
