From JusticeforKirsty.org:

5 December 2005: Pogues reissue "Fairytale of New York"
The Pogues are to re-issue the classic Fairytale of New York on WEA in time for Christmas - we think December 19th. The three formats of the reissue - 7" vinyl (backed with Battle March Medley), CD (with an instrumental singalong version) and DVD (including the video and a live Top Of The Pops performance) - all feature the Pogues/Kirsty original recording with Kirsty from 1987.
The band is splitting royalties from this release to charities for the homeless and to the Justice For Kirsty Campaign. There will be a special download version of the song featuring a special guest singer in tribute to Kirsty's original, recorded at one of the Pogues upcoming tour dates.

Hi, I discovered this site today, and I've been wondering what exactly will be on the DVD version, I understand there'll be a video of the song and the top of the pops performance from 1987, but it says it includes "Pogues/Kirsty original recording". Isn't that the same as the video or are we gonna be able to play that on CD players?

DVD is often misunderstood to mean Digital Video Disc, whereas it in fact means Digital Versatile Disc. Though DVDs are most widely used for digital pictures, that is not their only use. The lead track of the DVD is the original audio recording from 1987.

And to answer the original question - no, you won't be able to play this DVD track in your CD player. Normal red-book compliant Audio CD players can not understand a DVD formatted disc.

Note: One of the two download versions of Fairytale is now available for pre-order from:

http://www.7digital.com/pogues

This version is (as far as I know) the Live Brixton version from 2001.

Jonathan Ross also plugged the single on Radio 2 on Saturday, played the track, mentioned the re-release and the charities...excellent. :D
