Kickstart an Album

I'm going to go on kickstarter and try and raise enough money to convince Spider, Terry, Jem, Daryl, Andrew and anyone else who's ever been a Pogue, or whoever the others decide to be a Pogue, to make a new album. I'd like to see a fiddle in the band this time around - used to such great effect in The Limerick Rake. To me it seems like it would cost at least $100,000 to get it going. I could be wrong, after all Nirvana and the Police made albums for a lot less. We should start brainstorming here. Decide on incentives and the ways to entice the band to comply. I don't have much money to contribute - I could easily put up $1000 (maybe more -but I'd have to get sober and talk to my wife) and some airline miles to get one or two in the same place. I'm guessing the album will (!) be made in USA. Let's get this going. This site has been sad since Phil passed. I hope everyone is doing well.

Nice idea. Stick a link on here if you get the Kickstarter thing going. 8)

As much as i would like to see the guys working together, it seems unlikely. They've been there & done that. A good start would be to get Spider to put something out.... He's apparently done a bunch of recording, only 1 track released ("Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down ").

What a load of complete bollix. If the band have any interest in making a new album, they'll do it themselves.

I wouldn't say it is a complete load. People record and tour for all kinds of reasons beyond their own interest. The Pogues would've toured Africa if someone would've come forward with the money (maybe not Africa). Luna just got back together because a Spanish promoter made an offer. Foo Fighters did something like that for a specific city. This is unprecedented. I'm thinking we make them an offer to continue without Shane. If we get $30,000 - that itself would be some Anoise!

The Pogues have always been larger than their parts. They could make a great album without Shane as long as they don't have some stupid record company telling them they need a hit (the final album is testament to how bad they could be in such circumstances, while Waiting For Herb was a great album for a 'new' band).

Just read how Jerry Lee Lewis required help from a superfan (who happened to be wealthy) to make his last three albums.
Also read Queensryche is selling shares in the band.

What else do we have to do?

Pogues are the ultimate example of resting on their laurels ... this will never happen, as much as I'd love to see/hear it.

De La Soul recently raised enough to record a new album through this method - I suppose it's down to the band all agreeing to do it
