in the first verse of this song there is a line "Where the Blacks sold fire and sleep" i was wondering what the meaning of this line is, i checked out the parting glass site but there was nothing, does anyone have any insight into this line?

Just listened to this song again - who is doing the 'answer' backing vocals in the end during the fadeout?

Not one of my favorite Pogues tunes, but it does strongly remind me of Shane's earlier band The Nips, bouncy accordion and a cajun-sytled guitar hook.
