The two others that immediately spring to mind are:

Dark Streets Of London
...the old men that were singing "When The Roses Bloom Again"

Fairytale Of New York
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
Galway Bay
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Yes indeed. This may not be my favourite version.

It's two songs. Different songs, shared title. My own preference is for the one associated with Bing Crosby, mainly because an old family friend, Bridgie Moran, had a killer version she sang every Christmas Day.

Actually I've always guessed that if there were an NYPD choir who were singing Galway Bay it probably would've been the one that Crosby sang. It sort of seems right.

This may just be ever so slightly relevant. I wrote a poem about Brendan Behan which references Shane's mention of Brendan in Streams of Whiskey. Thought i'd share

A hostage of the pen while courting with the bottle
Who would listen to the confessions of an Irish rebel?
As the borstal boy grows into a quare old fellow
The leaving party waves him off as the old halls become hollow

The bell chimes out his words, playing like an auld triangle
Inspired by a laughing boy who was his mother’s idol
The twisting of another rope is all that it takes
And everybody will sing his songs for years after the wake

The big house with its garden party is where he will stay
As slumber brings Shane along to pass the time of day
The captain and the kings play deaf to the song of the soldier
While to Shane he turns and says “hold your hour and have another”

The landlady will keep her hostage no more
The scarperer is moving out, just like 1954

In "A Pair of Brown Eyes", Shane mentions a song called "Where the Water Lilies Grow". This man is so knowledgeable it amazes me. I am guessing his mother sang songs to him well into his adult years. My own mother knew an incredible number of songs and would come up with songs I had never heard of even when she was 95 years old. Thanks to Shane MacGowan and his mom!

In "The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn,"
There was lazy drunken bastards singing "Billy In The Bowl"

I've never figured out what song this is but found the legend behind the song in a few places including here:
