Oh, and I love the song. It sparks memories from back when it came out. I'm wondering, are there places on the net where Clash fans are arguing passionately over the artistic merit of Train in Vain or Rock the Casbah? I love Train in Vain.... but its pop.... and I don't like RTC or Should I Stay or Should I go.

Well.... its no Blue Heaven!

I don't like Tuesday Morning that much. I think if they want to do songs without Shane personally I'd prefer Wake of the Medusa, or Living in a World Without Her or something but thats just me.

Well, I did not want to. & that could be said of a large % of posts in this or any other forum. Seriously, am I to be limited only to compliments, Bono bashing and ?'s about Tiffany bracelets & polo shirts? I for one thought Big Brother took offense & jumped in way too early and rabidly on this one. I wrote what I felt like writing. Later, I looked up the movie Blown Away, the soundtrack from which the recorded version I listened to was taken, on a Hollywood Soundtracks compilation & it is not the bad romantic drama'dy I envisioned, but a Tommy Lee Jones vehicle with Irish themes. Also starring Forest Whitaker, who's great in everything. I've laughed at others non status-qou posts, never once having the urge to tell them not to express themselves.
Cheers,
Frances

Actually, my name is listed to the left & ,as per it's traditional spelling, I am not a miserable prick, but rather a miserable cunt. How ever did you smuggle your boyfriends laptop into the drunk tank w/ ya? Now, go suck on a tampon. Thank you & goodnight!

Yes yes. I'm a big bad (and somewhat drunken at this moment) Big Brother Thought Police twat.

You may notice however that I defended your right to say what you like about the song. You opinion is as valid as mine (which, I'll add, I have not voiced). You may also notice that what I took exception to is your style:

This song is crap

Who would want to hear this?

Your tone is clearly confrontational and designed to provoke. I encouraged (and still encourage) people not to respond. But of course there's an irony in that I'm unable to follow my own advice.

Regardless - If I ignore the style of your original post, I have to admit that I quite like your posts and responses. You seem able to deal with criticism with humor. Good on ya.

TM was a standout highlight at M/cr last night. 15,000 or so folk seemed to like it fine for a "crap" song.

Splendid arguments though, beautifully put.

I think (know) there definitely are, especially if someone came on bashing them in the same way TM was bashed here...
I think Train In Vain and Rock the Casbah have tons of artistic merit, Casbah especially, the piano riff is amazing, and the music was written almost completely by topper headon which makes it kind of an oddity among Clash songs, even poppy ones ;)
also the lyrics are amazing and still so relevent, especially re: censorship of music:
By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy casbah sound
But the bedouin they brought out
The electric camel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the shareef
Had cleared the square
They began to wail

but it's definitely cool with me that you don't like it, although i think that maybe your mind could be changed, maybe not...
Should I Stay i would say less artistic merit (or what my perception of what artistic merit is) but a great catchy poppy rock and roll tune in the tradition of the kind of pre-punk bands from what i understand...

wow, sorry for the total thread drift...back on topic, i think tuesday morning is a good song, especially live
