For what its worth, I thought the same thing.

First time I ever heard it (a long, long time ago) I admit I thought the same. AND my ears were better then...

Well, knowing Strummer was tied so closely to the band it was a logical connection. Or, knowing that, maybe its all a conspiracy. :?:

It could be as Joe was also seen heading away from the Grassy Knowl one November evening in Texas. If he hid that secret all his life then secrets become as easy as breathing.

Tuesday Morning - the meaning of it

Post Mon Feb 23, 2009 9:34 pm

I think "Tuesday Morning" is written to a girl, I read that somewhere on the internet. I used to think that the person who had left in the song was meant to be Shane - because he had left the band. In the Pogues biography by Carol Clerk it is mentioned that Shane and Spider were (and still are) very close friends. That's where I got the impression from, that the song was for Shane, as a friend of Spider. I was actually a bit disappointed when I read that it was for a girl, not for Shane MacGowan. Still a sad and beautiful song, though.

It's written about Spider Stacy's girlfriend. Here's a link to the YouTube video that explains it:

And it is a really good song :)

ahhh... I am trying to imagine Spider crooning "But I knew that you / With your heart beating / And your eyes shining / Would be dreaming of me / Lying with you / On a Tuesday morning" to Shane and cant help loving it  . In_the_morning!! Due to you the song will never be the same

I dont want to doubt their closeness but maybe not that much close still, eh? ;)

Are you two insinuating that pornography is a good substitute for Shane MacGowan?

Well, that may be true where you come from...but where I live crosswords play an integral role.

I was just listening to Tuesday Morning and realized just how odd it would be if the song was addressed to Shane. Huh. It's late, and I'm being redundant, but like MacRua said...the song will never be the same again.

I thought it was a great song about friendship and the losing of it :P but as a love song to a woman it is very touching as well. I mean you can always interpret lyrics in many different ways. Not that I thought about it in a sexual context, just in the sense of friendship between Shane and Spider. In the video you can see scenes from shows when Shane was still in the band, that's what made me think about that. Well, unfortunately, I was wrong.

UNLESS you are right. Maybe we're all confused and "Louise" is really a "Louis" and "Victoria" is really a "Rick". Then the song could hypothetically be about Shane  It's all a big conspiracy.

I'm totally kidding. In case you didn't get that.
