My remastered discs

Post Thu Aug 25, 2005 6:51 pm

The names of several songs are misspelled on the remastered discs that I have purchased. Some examples:

Dingle "Ragatta"
Wake of the "Mudusa"

Does that mean they're pirated copies or just poorly proofed?

It means that those who made the sleeves are innovative, original people who boldly cross the boundaries of conventional spelling. Isn't Mudusa much more laden with meaning than old, tired Medusa? ;)

On a more serious note, they are not pirated copies - just some printer's gremlins crawled in. :)

Warner Music have undertaken to correct a substantial numbers of proofing errors which slipped through in the seasonal rush last December, but I cannot say if this has actually happened yet. I notice some of the errors are perpetuated in the Japanese releases and some not.

If you spot any on "The Platinum Collection" by the way, we had nothing to do with that release, nor would I begin to guess why it exists.

I'm just happy to hear...

that I didn't screw the band by purchasing back-alley copies.

Any word on the Brixton show being issued separately from the "best of" disc?

Cheers,

Aha so we might have collector's items (of which you've probably sold thousands now)

I'm hoping that if they reissue the reissues they'll spell "MacColl" right this time. After being a fan of Kirsty's for almost 20 years I should be used to the dreaded "McColl," but I think my exact words upon seeing it spelled that way in the booklets for Rum Sodomy & the Lash AND If I Should Fall from Grace with God AND Peace & Love were "Gaaah!"

(Seriously, I love the reissues and think everyone involved did a great job with them, but I really wish somebody at Warner Music had remembered there's an "a" in "MacColl").

Yay! It's Rich!

Just about six hours ago I was thinking "I wonder where Rich has got to? He's not been around for a bit."

You know - just FYI.

Rich, I'm sure Shane MAcGowan, Andrew RankEn, Philip (one L) Chevron, Jem (not Jim) Finer, Darryl (2 Rs) Hunt and Spider Stacy (no E) all sympathise. Strange, no one ever gets Terry and James wrong. Are they Lizards, I wonder?

Wow, if I'm going to get warm receptions like that when I come back after being gone for a while, I'll disappear more often! Thanks! 8)

Speaking of reissues, it occurred to me a while back that I must officially belong to "A Certain Demographic" because I realized that in the past year I bought more remastered rereleases of albums I already had than I did new music. I couldn't help it -- this is what happens when record labels rerelease the entire Pogues back catalog AND the entire Go-Betweens back catalog AND almost the entire Kirsty MacColl back catalog all at the same time. I figure next year Warner Music will rerelease everything Billy Bragg and the B-52's ever did as special edition 2-disc sets and I will have to take out a second mortgage on my house to afford them all.

By the way, Philip, if it makes you feel better I could start "accidentally" writing "James Fearnly," but it will be tougher to figure out a way to misspell "Terry Woods." I'll see what I can do.

Actually, Billy Bragg's first couple of albums are being rereleased as deluxe editions next year, but they'll be on Yep Roc Records, not Warner...
