What is this??

Post Sun Aug 21, 2005 11:09 am

At http://www.Ginza.se if you search for "Pogues" you can from the 1 September book a album called Dirty old Town.

Is this some kind of Bootleg or what is it?

Dirty Old Town - The Platinum Collection

Post Sun Aug 21, 2005 12:05 pm

Image

Seems like a low price (£6.99) UK only release mix between "Rest of the Best and classics" compilation.
VibrantSound.com
Amazon.co.uk

Tracklist is:
1. Streams Of Whiskey (MacGowan)
2. A Pair Of Brown Eyes (MacGowan)
3. Dirty Old Town (Ewan MacColl)
4. Sally Maclennane (MacGowan)
5. Dingle Regatta (Finer)
6. Turkish Song Of The Damned (MacGowan / Finer)
7. Metropolis (Finer)
8. Thousands Are Sailing (Chevron)
9. A Rainy Night In Soho (MacGowan)
10. Misty Morning Albert Bridge (Finer)
11. I'm A Man You Don't Meet Every Day (trad.)
12. Gridlock (Ranken / Finer)
13. Young Ned Of The Hill (Woods)
14. Tuesday Morning (Stacy)
15. Paris St. Germain (Stacy / Woods)
16. Drunken Boat (Fearnley)
17. Love You Til The End (Hunt)

What I think is interesting is that everybody has a writing credit on this one! Farytale and Irish Rover are missing!! It's not the common "Best of", "Very Best of", "Ultimate Collection" type of compilation.
7 songs sung by Shane.
3 instrumentals
7 sung by others

that's what I call fairness

And the tracklist is almost correct sorted from early to new. And since the label is WEA, I'm very sure this ain't no Bootleg!

Warners are doing a series of these Platinum Collections with various bands on their roster. No big deal, just a budget compilation. I like it, it's got Drunken Boat on.

It is a good cd with songs from the whole 'era' but why buy another best of cd yeah.

This would be a great starter though.

agreed because most discount CD's only have around 10 - 12 songs and only cover the most popular material
