The band are firing on all cylinders, MacGowan is in the best shape he has been in for years ... surely a new album?

I hope at least the once 'announced' box set of rarities and outtakes will come true!

Well, the last thing Shane released, "Road to Paradise" I would say was just as good as any Pogues stuff. I am being optimistic about it. I mean, there is only so long you can spend in rehearsals before someone just starts playing about with a tune or riff, right? Come on, someone give me hope!!!!!!

Yeah, but is he interested in making new songs. Even if he doesn't make 1 new song 'till the bitter end, he'll still be a great songwriter. Maybe he's fed up with it.

By the end the entire band were quality songwriters ... Any Pogues album would have to include songs by the lot of them with the lion's share of tunes from MacGowan because that's what the public wants.

Yes but maybe something along the lines of the first album, some original material from the band, and some from trad that they haven't done before.

They are all good songwriters, but Shane is one in a million songwriter. I love Tuesday Morning, Living in a world without her, Young Ned, Misty Morning...but If I should fall, streams of whiskey, boys, fairytale of NY, a pair of brown eyes, rainy night...Get my point?

I would be the first one to run to the stores with cash in my hand if any new Pogues/Shane material ever should get released, but i´d also be a bit worried. It would be terrible to hear something "not good enough" as it would leave an ugly "comeback flop" image on all this brilliant re-union touring..

Still, I´d be willing to risk it. I´d be very happy to hear something new.

The Pogues wouldn't allow a dud out ...

If they went into the studio again I'd guess they'd aim to record 6-8 new MacGowan songs, 1-3 songs each by the other Pogues and 1-3 trads from which they'd pick the cream for the album, ensuring most of MacGowan's work got on because that's what people want to hear.

Strummer used the same strategy for 'come back' album Hell's Ditch after the disorganised jumble of P&L which played like a load of cobbled together B sides (with exceptions) rather than a rounded realised album with MacGowan at the helm

oooh feel I was a bit harsh on P&L there as it has some of my favourites on. But as an album it feels disjointed
