The Pogues are celebrating their 30th anniversary with two gigs in Paris in September. Share your best memories of the band and get a chance to see your contribution featured in the booklet of the live CD/DVD coming out in late 2012.

The challenge is open at this link: http://www.thepogues-olympia.fr/jeu/?lang=en

Is there any issue with submitting something already published in the fora or in a TravelPogue?

Don't see any reason why there should be any issue with it. I'm just puzzled with this part of the rules: "Participation in the Contest is exclusively reserved for any adult natural person living in Metropolitan France, United Kingdom and Ireland only, having Internet access and an e-mail address." Memories of people living elsewhere are unwelcome?

Hmm. Lionel, if you're reading this, is there any reason this should be restricted?

Presumably this means that any cyborgs, androids or other robots are also ineligible to take part. Damn unfair.

Who exactly is running this thing, anyway? From the URL it seems to stem from the Paris Olympia, but surely they're just hosting the gigs, not producing the DVD?

Just tried to vote for you, Clash, but discovered that to vote or to take part you apparently have to be registered with facebook. So that rules me out, I'm afraid.

Is the DVD titled?

SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE

The Pogues: Set The Night On Fire ... Ewan MacColl. I think I suggested same for the 2002 live album. If unused, I will be suggesting it again for the 2022 Live album.

Will Shane be the singer on the 2022 Live Album? (Just thought I would get this out of the way now.) :)

APRIL 1988[i think!]at a venue in Paris ,the Zenith,The Pogues came on to the stage to a mighty roar,it was just like a football match! My friend Kris and myself had been on a short trip to France, with the school and somehow we managed to persuade our teachers allowing us to attend the concert.Great performance,Joe Strummer appeared as a special guest, all in all a most memorable night.Twenty-four years ago, wow!that was a lifetime ago.....

Marion, you must share your memories directly at the contest site (http://www.thepogues-olympia.fr/jeu/?lang=en) to be able to take part. Good luck!

My very first live Pogues experience was at Hammersmith Palais in 1984 where they were the support act for Elvis Costello, i was mightily impressed and i managed to see them quite a few times at a few Pub venues in London,The George Robey,Cricketers Arms and two or three others that i can no longer remember!I returned home to Tiel in The Netherlands ,early 1985 hoping that i would see The Pogues perform again and i sure got lucky when they played 3 shows in Deventer,Utrecht and Amsterdam.I was unable to attend the show in Amsterdam, but i managed to get to the other 2 ,they were brilliant, a bit shambolic, maybe eccentric at times, but most importantly their music shone through! The Pogues had at the time,i thought the potential to be one of the most important bands, ever. For me, they did not disappoint.

Tony, if you want to take part in the contest, post your memories directly at the Olympia site (http://www.thepogues-olympia.fr/jeu/?lang=en). Good luck!
