the newly remastered Rum Sodomy would probably be the best choice. In additition to the original album (their most perfect in my opinion) you get the Poguetry in Motion EP and it doesn't get any better than this!
If you would really like to expand your Pogues-horizon you should probably check out Hell's Ditch although many don't seem to like it that much. Some nice Eastern influences there... and a good summer record!

Every album is brilliant in there own way. Hells ditch is a very beutiful album. And i agree with he summer feeling.Make yourself a large drink sit down outside, turn up the volume to 11  and the pogues will take you away to Siam,Spain and other foreign countrys.

Red Roses For Me and Rum, Sodomy & The Lash is highly recomended.

i think Hells ditch is an excellent album and watching the documentary 'if i should fall from grace' when Shane says that album should never have been made, i think it would have been a shame if it hadnt. Summer in Siam is such a brilliant ballard and the beginning of the song 'hells ditch' listening that on full volume is unbelievable

Hm. I would advise Pogue Mahone as it can show you the Pogues in a different shape (a very good one imho).
Otherwise Peace and Love or Hell´s ditch...

Red Roses and RSTL (new re-issues). Good exemplars of the Pogues links to the past
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away. . .

RSATL,Red Roses, Hells Ditch, Peace & Love, Pogue Mahone in that order or any order you choose so long as you buy the lot (remastered). Then enjoy.

Oops! Missed Herb out - je suis désolé.

I recently listened to all seven remastered versions one after the other, in chronological order - (retentive or what?), on route from Brisbane to Dubai. From Dubai to Manchester I did live tracks. Not bored for a second!

buy Pogue Mahone, Waiting For Herb, and Peace & Love if you want the albums least representative of the vision, talent, and input of the band's catalyst.

by "catalyst," i mean "the guy who wrote and sang 90% of the songs."

Hell's Ditch, by the way, is a good album.

While all Pogues Cd's are excellent I feel you should start from the begging.
Start with Red Roses for Me than work your down the list, that way you can feel the band evolve as time progresses!
