I've always thought the lyrics quoted above were a trenchant piss-take on jingoistic nationalism. I just received a copy of Lebor Gabala Erenn from the Irish Texts Society; and from my readings over the years of Irish mythology/history, and the newly arrived book, I have deduced that Ireland has been settled/invaded by different ethnic groups at least 6 times so far that I can think of right now.
