Yeah Yeah Yeah

God I love this song. Whats the story behind it? I remember reading that Shane wanted to make a point about how easy it would be to right a hit or something but I may have completely made that up. The lyrics are tip top ha ha

Yes, shame it wasn't. A hit, I mean.

Me neither. But James introduced me to a great cover version by a Los Angeles Latino band whose name now escapes me.

I'll admit to not thinking much one way or the other, but I got an ipod last summer, put all my singles on it, and put it in the car. It has come up & it's great driving music, gave me a whole new appreciation for the song.

My guess would be Ollin, as they are the only LA band I know that are know for covering Pogues tracks.Think they still do a Annual Pogues Tribute@ Spaceland . Have a few cds by the band and all have been worth a listen .2007: San Patricios (EP) being one in point.

The Ozomatli cover is really entertaining. Sort of a young Los Lobos covering Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah.

Ozomatli are, as a whole, a band I've always enjoyed. They're an interesting mix of social/racial backgrounds and a raft of musical influences. I didn't realize they'd covered "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah", but I can't say I'm surprised. Pretty good version, at least from the sample...
Have you heard about the big strong man?

For some reason the single of it never did a whole lot for me but I love the extended " dance " mix of it on the box-set. Beautiful string section and when the accordion comes in you're reminded it IS The Pogues.

I realize there are some on this board who feel otherwise, but i *love* all the dance mixes. Exactly for the reason you've said - it goes off to where it goes, but then snaps back in to remind you it IS the Pogues. Like when the Philip/Spider/Kirsty (think i have that right) vocals come back on "If I Should Fall From Grace".

Yeah, I love the extended " ..Grace..", especially where the vocals drop out and you can sing along with it, karaoke style. It's the closest I'll get to singing with the Pogues anyway. I also love the long mix of " Young Ned.." with the opening dance bit and then the band come in with the main melody of the song. Great to sing along to as well with Terry's original vocal dropping in and out. Probably one of the few people who love " The good, the bad and the ugly " as well. It wouldn't work on an album I don't think but on it's own it's great. Surprised it didn't make the box-set.
