I really like Gridlock. It works really well as an opening track. Sounds great through headphones especially (try it).

Though like most of you on these boards, I obviously like all the instrumentals, but Gridlock gets me bouncing every time. Maybe because it's quite different to the usual Pogues "sound", if indeed there is one.

I'm going to name three

Wild Cats of Kilkenny (I use it to "warm-up" before rugby matches. It's the last song I hear before getting to the meeting. It raises my tension and as I hear it, there's nothing in me head but the match)
Shanne Bradley
but my favourite is Metropolis
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior
Shove you in the ground
But you'll stick your head back out and shout
"Let's have another round!"

My top favourite would be winning it for me by long way - Young ned of the Hill Dub. But Japan is great too, Planxty Noel Hill, Repeal...I think all Pogues instrumentals are good (I don´t like shanne bradley too much though) - but on top, Ned stands.

I don't generally think it's my favourite instrumental. But I have to say that the performance of "Repeal..." at Brixton on Sunday was fantastic. :)
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Dang, how could I forget Squid? Thanks for reminding, Eric.

I agree that Paddy Garcia is wonderful + I like it as it is the first song of the Pogues which I learnt on tin whistle.

Maidrin rua is sweet too I think.

Wild Cats of Kilkenny (currently my all around favorite, mostly because of the cutting sounds, and the yelling - been listening to it over and over in the last couple of weeks)

Battle march medley.
the instrumental parts in bottle of smoke thousands are sailing, the end of limerick rake and others are pretty bitchin' to. not full on instrumental tunes though.
the tune played after the parting glass on the soit bootleg (live in germany/london) i know as o'keefe's slide. another great one. this is the same tune that flogging molly later used at the end of black friday rule.

Brisbane, Dingle, Kilkenny,Planxty, Battle march. But on it's own is the divine " Shanne Bradley ". I can only think why the poster further up above doesn't like it much is because there is no whistle in it. For me though, it is probably the most perfectly realised idea of what Shane was going for, it you see what I mean. The melodies and playing could be from another century. No gimmicks, no pisstaking, just unashamed tipping of the hat to O'carolan, the harpist who inspired the thing. We''ll never know but I think O'carolan himself would have approved.

Google Comedy Translation (though it's actually not bad this time):

"The end of lullaby of london (demo) would be a nice instrumental."

It's like asking "what kind of sex do you like best?" How the hell am i supposed to pick just one?

"Wild Cats" was my favourite in the early days, but in my (comparatively) mollower years now, i might pick "Pistol for Paddy", but it's a hair's breadth between those & most of the rest, so what's the point?
