I think Gridlock is a great album opener, but I have to say Metropolis is my favorite... it sort of makes me think of James bond in Ireland...? Yup, weird I know.

Noone's mentioned Repeal of the Licensing Laws? Surely one of the best instrumentals. Agree though, all of the others are mighty fine too.

But that is a real tough question to answer, mainly because I love A Pistol For Paddy Garcia, The Battle March Medley, Shanne Bradley, Planxty Noel Hill, and Squid Out of Water, just as much as the first two that I named.
couldn't have said it better.

Repeal of the Licensing Laws, Sketches of Spain, The Battle of Brisbane, Gridlock, and Maidrin Rua, I can't believe I forgot to mention those as well. In fact, all the Pogues instrumentals are classics

Pogues Instrumentals

Post Thu Feb 02, 2006 3:06 am

A very hard but very well thought out posting. Let's run through the various Pogues instrumentals throughout the years, as each is unique in its own way.

1. The Battle of Brisbane
2. Dingle Regatta
3. Repeal of the Licensing Laws
4. Wild Cats of Kilkenny
5. A Pistol For Paddy Garcia
6. Planxty Noel Hill
7. The Junk Theme
8. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
9. Shanne Bradley
10. Metropolis
11. The Battle March Medley
12. South Australia
13. Gridlock
14. Maidrin Rua
15. Squid Out of Water
16. Sketches of Spain

And lets not forget the atmosphereric instrumentals on the "Straight To Hell" soundtrack, "Rabinga" for instance.

All in all, every single one of these instrumentals is brilliant. Each different in its own way, but all equally great. So I'll say all of them are some of my personal favorite moments of top class "Poguerty"
