Indeed. I am torn between knowing that I don't need this box set and knowing that I do need it.

Maybe someone needs to develop a "12 step program" for this addiction.

*sigh* I was actually thinking of letting go of some of the vinyl singles in my collection, as I don't fire up the turntable much any more and can listen to remastered versions on CD, but... there's the cover art, the sticker sheet, poster, and picture discs.

Any reviews on the artwork or liner notes?

Terry, I dread to think. We can only cross our fingers and hope that the Brothers Rhino haven't got our sleeve copy mixed up with the Jesus and Mary Chain's.

No, No, No, No, No, No!

This is just crazy talk. Never, ever get rid of your vinyl. You'll regret being left with only those crappy CD cases that crack if you look at them. And when your eyes start to go, there's no way you'll be able to read the cd liner notes which are always in a miniscule font. Keep the big lovely, clutter causing, black, shiny round things. 8)

Thanks soulfinger, I needed that. :D I suppose I'll end up putting them in my will.

"Well, that's all the estate and family taken care of. One thing I do find odd is that territa left their massive vinyl collection to someone they'd never met who lives many thousands miles of way in a London suburb."
"Yes, that is strange. Must have been a wonderful, generous human being."
"Yes. We'll ship it out tomorrow."

If I see this in my local music store, I'll probably buy it. If I see it really cheap on ebay, I'll probably buy it it. But I don't think I'd go to any more trouble to buy it.

I don't even have the other box set yet. If it was available to grab off the shelf locally, I'd take it in a heartbeat, but I just haven't gotten around to dishing out nearly $100 shipped from ebay or elsehwere.

None of the local new-CD stores, etc. here have had any Pogues CDs on the shelf for years as far as I can remember. They might've had the Dirty Old Town compilation, and otherwise the Ultimate Collection (which I don't yet have), but nothing else in years.

Every once in a while I rescue a Pogues CD from the used-CD store, regardless how many copies I have of RRfM, RS&tL, IISFFGWG, etc.

The track listing are the ones of the non-remastered CDs.

The individual card sleeves also feature the (reduced) artwork of the non-remastered CDs, not the original vinyl LPs. Strangely, the "wea" label is used again, I thought it was dead. And there's a "Stiff" logo on the "Red Roses" and "Rum" CDs.

Actually, if the track listings on the artwork above are correct, this will be the first time ever that CDs have been available of both Rum and Fall From Grace in the correct original [vinyl] sequence. The original CDs had the badly-positioned "bonus" tracks (Pistol For Paddy G, South Australia, Battle March) and the remasters put all the bonus and related tracks at the end.

The poor positioning of the bonus tracks on the original CDs came about because they tended to close one or both sides of the MC (cassette) versions, at a time when MCs still substantially outsold CDs. The CDs were almost an afterthought to the record companies, who just used the same production master for the CD that they had used for the MC. It was a hugely frustrating oversight and drove me almost apoplectic when it happened, not least because it was as clear an indication as any that the record companies had no clue whatever about the future of the music business, a syndrome we still put up with twenty years later.

with regard to track listings, the first time I ever heard Rum it was on a taped version from a geography teacher at my school and the A and B sides had been inverted, so for the longest time I thought Waltzing Mathilda was in the middle of the record...once in a while I listen to it that way, and because I was used to it that way for so long it works, in a hopeless trying to relive my youth kind of way....

OK, so although they are clearly new pressings, the Rhino brothers appear to have reverted to the awkward running orders for both Rum and Fall From Grace, regardless of what the sleeves appear to claim.

I don't know why I bother.

Blimey, I wish I'd had a geography teacher like that...

This sounds a bit like a art gallery cutting up a canvas to fit the frame. :x
