With the great and colorful tales The Pogues have recounted through their songs I was wondering which ones would transfer to film! Im thinking maybe, A Pair Of Brown Eyes? or, Young Ned Of the Hill?

Good Thread.

Billy's Bones. Late 70's soccer violence into Full Metal Jacket style boot camp and out to the Front Line.

Thousands Are Sailing calls for the full epic treatment.

Turkish Song Of The Damned for a bit of Gothic horror.

Bottle Of Smoke as a feel-good movie about happy-go-lucky gambling folk.

All starring Johnny Depp, of course.

Turkish Song Of The Damned is already in a film. I've definately heard it at least once in a film (can't remember the film though).

Definately thousands are sailing could be in a film. APistol for paddy garcia would also fit well. Although it was probably in 'Straight to Hell' the alex cox film was it?

The Band Played Waltzing Matilda
The Old Main Drag
Gentleman Solider
Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six
Billy's Bones
Thousands are Sailing
Turkish Song of the Damned
Fairytale of New York
A Pair of Brown Eyes
Navigator (a lot of its themes were in "There Will Be Blood")
Young Ned of the Hill

It's kind of funny, but RSTL and IISFFGWG seem to be the "Storytelling" albums. I could only think of Young Ned on one of the other albums that really has a distinct narrative. I'm going to have to pull out the others and give them a spin to see if I can find more on the other discs.

No one said Boys From The County Hell?

Sally MacLennane would be good, Body of an American and Sickbed as well.

Turkish Song of the Damned and Hell's Ditch would be excellent horror movies (hopefully).

If someone got on it right away, a movie based on Fairytale would make for a nice Christmas time release around 2011 or 2012.

I see Thousands Are Sailing not so much as a feature-length film but in an HBO miniseries vein. Ideally it would air on FX or maybe The History Channel so that I could actually see it.

Inside my head all weekend has been developing the screenplay for the Dark Streets Of London movie. Gritty social realism, but with a heart of gold of course. I'm thinking Ken Loach to direct. Or actually possible Andrea Arnold now.

Started off working on And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda, but the danger was that Mel Gibson was going to star in it, so that project has been shelved pretty damn quick.

That's OK, we cast the lovely Ryan Kwanten (Oz actor who plays Jason Stackhouse in True Blood) before Gibson could get his paws on your script.

Oh to see Mel, with his face painted with the OZ flag, shouting out "you'll never take our freedom" as he storms up the beach at Gallipoli..........Hmmmmm sounds familiar.......

Phew, that's a relief. Now just need the assurance that Tom Cruise, with his uncanny ability at accents, isn't eyeing up playing Jock Stewart and I'll get on with thinking about the screenplay for I'm A Man You Don't Meet Every Day.
