Yes, the Pogues should most definitely be in Rock Band, but so should the Radiators--Million Dollar Hero;
Let's Talk about the Weather; Walking Home Alone Again; Trouble Pilgrim Second Avenue, etc.

Okay, I admit it; I'm a diehard fan of both bands.

I know not of these Radiators of which you speak. Are they Pogues related?

Oh, ye youthful young'un.

Pleased to be looking here. Note also that The Radiators of which we speak should not be confused with the zydeco band of the same name.

I play my real bass guitar way more than Rock Band. I just play Rock Band to have some fun and be able to atleast play fake drums b/c i don't want to buy a real drum kit

The Radiators are officially added to my list of bands to check out. Which album would you start with?

Also, I just realized that at least one Pogue has been in a music game before: Spider Stacey did guest vocals on Flannigan's Ball (along with Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners) by The Dropkick Murphys, which was featured as a downloadable song in Guitar Hero III. Coincidentally, Dropkick is being added to Rock Band next week with the track "Shipping up to Boston," which everyone may know from the movie The Departed. With any luck, we'll see the Pogues added some day soon.

Though it is great that you discovered the Pogues at all, I must rain on the parade...

I HATE GUITAR HERO AND ROCK BAND!!!

Call me old fashioned but i take in pride in actually playing a real guitar... how good or bad is irrelevant, rock band is the lazy way to pretend you can make music, and oddly I agree with Prince, who turned down an offer saying he thinks it's more important for kids to learn REAL instruments... whats going to be next, football hero, thinking hero? breathing hero? Music games are garbage.

Until they make a game like rock band where you actually play and are awarded points by ACTUALLY playing, I will be a hater, It wouldn't sell well though, not when u can just pretend...

...of course getting people into the pogues in any way possible is ok with me... even if it means degrading them and putting them in one of these crap fests

i LOVE these games. i've never met anyone who actually thought THEY were making the music, though. my buddies and i don't stand in front of a shitty tv with the pixelated crowd cheering us on and rudy's dog pissing on the carpet, thinking "my god, THIS is what it feels like to be a rockstar!?" yeah if people really WANT to be rockstars let them go out and try to be one. if there's a DESIRE to learn an instrument (or the time and patience in my case) let them go out and get one. i have no desire to be a rock star or a hero of any instrument. i DO have a desire to entertain myself with family and friends (many of them aren't dying to be rock stars either) and make fools of ourselves, in this case with phony instruments (seeing as how a real guitar, a drumset, a pa system, and all that would be a little too much for me. unless prince was paying for it all of course.). they're "games" for a reason. entertainment.
Lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink.

I understand how you feel on this, I really do. I probably would have thought the same thing when I played guitar in a band in high school. I like these games primarily because they allow musicians and non-musicians alike to enjoy music together. They are a fantastic social game/event and they are fun.

A lot of people play football video games or driving games instead of actually playing football or racing cars. Sometimes a virtual quick fix is fun, simple and much less expensive and/or time consuming.

To each his own, though. I just know that I would absolutely love to see The Pogues in the game and would probably finally be able to turn a few more of my friends onto them if they were.

If there were to be a Pogues licensed to such an enterprise, for a more authentic experience, the track will need to be randomly programmed for the singer to, come in late/change words/forget words/start singing entirely different song.......you'd need to be good.

You can kind of make this happen by putting on "no fail" mode and drinking copiously. You can adjust the actual vocal track way down in the mix and go crazy. Normally you're graded on pitch and enunciation (even when the singer is off-pitch and slurring), but "no fail" means anything goes.

Well, the Jam are now in the game, as well. So far for bands similar to/directly related to The Pogues, we have:

The Clash
Elvis Costello
Iggy Pop
The Ramones
The Jam
Dropkick Murphys
The Buzzcocks

I can see The Pogues fitting on this list so easily.

Just out of curiosity, if you could put three Pogues songs in Rock Band, which would you choose (most bands only get a 3-pack)?

My thoughts for Pogues Pack 01:
1. If I Should Fall From Grace With God
2. Sally Maclennane
3. Waxie's Dargle

If they were to put in a Pogues Pack 02, it would be:
1. Sickbed of Cuchulainn
2. White City
3. Bottle of Smoke

First off, I would love to have some Pogues tracks on Rock Band/Guitar Hero. I think it would be a blast. Most importantly people really need to stop saying 'I'd rather just play a real guitar'. Lets get this straight...one is a musical instrument that takes years to even get acquainted with, the other is a video game that takes a long Saturday to master. No strings, no pickups, hell its not even made of wood. Its a game people. I heard John Mayer compare the two before and it equally irritated me. If that's the case, why would anyone play Donkey Kong when you can go to the zoo and start pissing off a real gorilla? Its just a game. I enjoy the hell out of these video games, and I also enjoy the hell out of playing my guitars. Also, my 8 year old son is friggin brilliant at Left4Dead. But you guys are right, what a waste of time. I'm going to the store to buy him a 12 gauge and some explosives . Sorry for the rant...

Brilliantly said. I also like looking at things on a spectrum. On one side, you have passive listening to music, on the other side, you have writing, performing and recording music. Somewhere in between, you have singing along in the car, air guitar, karaoke, dancing and music games. All are different ways to participate with/enjoy music and all of them involve different levels of talent/effort. Music games just give non-musicians a small taste of what it is like to play in a real band. They also allow musicians to interact with music with non-musician friends.

Quite possibly the best thing about all of this is that it puts the music in the spotlight an gives people an insight into how it is performed and constructed. Plus, it's one of the absolute most fun things to do with a group of people and a case of beer that won't get you in trouble with the law. I cannot describe how much The Pogues need to have songs available as downloads in Rock Band (by far the suprerior/classier series, in my opinion).

Some of us have just started a thread at the official Rock Band forums to lobby for Rum, Sodomy and the Lash to be released as a full album download in the game. If anyone here cares to join, here's a link:
